We had the good fortune of connecting with Aubrey Brand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aubrey, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Consistency is a trait I value very highly, I may not be able to do everything as well as I would like to or give each project the time it needs but getting it done is what I push for. Starting is often the biggest challenge so I will tell myself I will give a drawing just five minutes of my time. Sometimes it is only five minutes but often times I get fully invested once I’ve started and the rest comes more easily.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I strive to create beautiful and refined custom designs that will look great on the skin for years. I have interest in many different styles of art and get excited about crisp lines and solid color, I also enjoy fine line black and grey tattooing. Communicating and extracting ideas with clients can be challenging at times but my favorite is when we are able to collaborate ideas to make a rad design together.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hiking in the mountains and being outside in nature is my happy place. Denver has some fun and amazing places to visit and I love going to shows too but if friends and family are visiting me and open it, I want to show them how gorgeous this state is.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have many people who helped me along the way and most likely didn’t realize how their words stuck to me. I’ll always be grateful to my mentor who took me on as an apprentice and taught me everything I needed to know about the world of tattooing and how to be professional and successful. Wayne Lessard runs the oldest standing shop in Gainesville Florida and has had a hand in the success of the unique culture that Gainesville tattooing has to offer. He taught me a skill that has completely changed my life and I don’t take that for granted.
