Meet Megan Meyer | Registered Nurse & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a registered nurse by trade and came to a crossroads in the Spring of 2021. I was emotionally and spiritually broken and hopeless due to my alcohol addiction. Add my mission to help people, serve my community, follow the rules, hold the best intentions, and think positive thoughts.
I did not realize in the moment just how overwhelmed I was. Like many people, I reached for a coping element. I struggled with alcohol addiction my entire adult life and it progressed as I got into my 30’s. I decided that I didn’t want to live like that anymore and made the courageous decision to get on a plane and enter rehab in Palm Springs, CA in May 2021. I had been introduced to crystals by my mom four months prior to getting sober and immediately developed a strong passion towards them. I was drawn towards their energy.
After I got sober and went home from rehab, I got back to work as a nurse. I was left feeling full of anxiety and still missing a piece of my soul I longed for. With the gentle push of my mom, I decided to completely change my path and I hung up my stethoscope and dove into starting my own business selling crystals and spiritual products on my online website I had created. Since opening in February of 2022, I feel whole now. This has been the missing piece for me. I absolutely LOVE what I do. I get to make new connections with people, educate others on crystals and spiritual products, and continue on my healing journey in my recovery from alcoholism as well. I also use my platform to help others get sober and break the stigma about addiction. I want people to know they aren’t alone. I promised myself when I got sober, from then on, I would only do what sets my SOUL on FIRE. And that’s how Mama Moon Rocks was born!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I sell crystals (gems and minerals) and spiritual tools on my online website. They have played a huge role in my sobriety and healing and want to share them with others. I also do Facebook live crystal sales as well. My whole mission with my business is to provide high-quality products at affordable prices. There’s a lot of crystal shops out there that charge very high prices and I want for everyone to be able to have a chance to have these healing products in their lives. What sets us apart is all the little details we do on a daily basis to ensure the best possible experience for our customers. We go over and above for every order. We include educational crystal informational cards for every stone they order. We always include a free gift in every order as well. We make shipping affordable and charge a flat-rate for everyone and always ship priority mail so the customers get their orders shipped fast. We strive to do next business day shipping as well. When I started this business I asked myself, “what would I LOVE and APPRECIATE when I place an order for crystals?” I made a list and took the time before opening to make sure every little detail was in place. I also take the time to make true connections with our customers.
I am most proud of taking this huge risk and taking a chance on myself and going after what truly sets my soul on fire. I knew if I could sober, I could do anything. It has NOT been an easy first year since opening. I went from working as a registered nurse to becoming basically a one woman show and I do it all with my business. I learned how to become computer savvy, run a website, fulfill orders, create crystal descriptions, take product photos, budget, and so much more! I overcame all of the challenges along the way by reminding myself to never lose the faith. When orders were few and far between, I would remind myself why I’m doing what I’m doing and anything worth having is worth fighting for! I made connections with other business women and we have all been so supportive of each other and I knew I wasn’t alone in my early struggles with doubting if I could do this.
I want the world to know that I am a true, authentic person that has walked through fire. I have opened myself up to be vulnerable and be brutally honest about my past struggles with addiction. I opened this business because it has helped me heal and I want to help others heal as well. It’s so much more than just selling a crystal to someone. I chose to share my story as part of my brand when I first opened to inspire others to be their truth authentic selves as well. I want others who struggle to know they’re not alone. The connections I’ve made with so many of my customers along the way feed my soul!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were visiting the Omaha, NE area for the first time, I would definitely have to take them downtown. I would take them to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge that is all lit up at night and beautiful. We would eat dinner at Spaghetti Works downtown which is somewhere I have gone since I was a kid. We would also have to check out South Omaha and make a visit to the Henry Doorly Zoo and have lunch at Howard’s Charro Cafe – they have the best Mexican food in town in my opinion! We also have lots of quality time floating in our pool at home and making a great connection. And of course, spend time in my crystal room at home showing them all my crystal beauties!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If it weren’t for the love and support of my mom and my husband, I would not be where I am today. My mom had an idea while I was at rehab getting sober, that she thought she could help me by encouraging me to start my own crystal shop. She even had a logo and business name created. It took about 6 months after I returned home from rehab and continue to work as a nurse, that I realized it wasn’t feeding my soul anymore. She encouraged me to take the leap and start my own business after many tears were shed and I felt like I didn’t know my place in this world anymore after becoming sober.
My husband Josh has stood by my side since the moment I told him I wanted to quit nursing and start a business. His nick name is now ‘Papa Moon Rocks’. He helps package all of our orders, screen prints all of our apparel, drops packages off at the post office, helps with all our crystal live sales, and so much more! I truly couldn’t do this without him! I went to rehab 6 months after him and I got married. He is my true angel here on Earth and I knew I could finally get sober with him by my side.
I am so grateful for these two! This business would not be possible without their love and encouragement. It takes a village to run this business and I am just so grateful to be on this journey with them!
