We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Boudreaux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We actually bought 3.14 Pi Bar existing. My boyfriend Don and I have owned businesses in varying industries previously. We had, however, always said we would never own a restaurant! But when we stumbled upon the listing for Pi Bar we were immediately intrigued with the concept. We approached out daughter’s fiance who had been a restaurant cook for quite some time, and asked if he wanted to join us in purchasing. We “secret shopped” Pi Bar a few times and loved it! It was definitely a gamble — at the time, restaurants were still under Covid-19 restrictions — but we ultimately decided it would be a fun new adventure. There is a lot we have kept the same but we’ve tweaked recipes, added new fun items and flavors, and brought the restaurant back from the brink of Covid shutdown.

What should our readers know about your business?
We bought 3.14 Pi Bar as an existing business. After selling another business in a totally different industry, we stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant. The owner at the time had moved out of state and a small team was trying to stay afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic. Buying a restaurant at that time was a huge risk but we loved the concept. The biggest challenge in the beginning was hiring. Restaurant workers had left the industry in droves and finding help was incredibly difficult. We put in a lot more hours in the beginning ourselves than we thought we were going to. Thankfully little by little the world settled back in to some sense of normalcy, restaurants fully re-opened and people were ready to get back to work.

Every day in business is a lesson learned. Whether it’s an internal challenge or ensuring a guest is happy, communication is key. As owners, we keep an open door policy so our team members feel comfortable coming to us with questions or concerns. We listen to guests and take suggestions to heart. A business owner is not always right and should always be willing to listen and make changes where possible.

Our biggest success to date was being a part of Good Morning America’s United States of Pie competition in November 2022. We won Colorado with our Black Bottom Bourbon Pecan Pie and took second in New York! We were live nationally on GMA twice which really let us tell our story not just to our local demographic but to the world!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I are crazy ultrarunners so much of her visit would be based around trail running and thankfully we have so many beautiful places to run in our state. Garden of the Gods would be a must. Cheyenne Canyon. The Manitou Incline. We’d visit Pi Bar for food and drinks (of course) and other local breweries. There are so many amazing ones to choose from. There’s really no better way to recover from a long trail run than a cold Colorado Craft brew.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a shoutout to my whole team. We’re a small crew so everyone has to give 110 percent to make the pie magic happen. From our sweet pie bakers, our line cooks, our servers to the other owners, we couldn’t do what we do without everyone’s dedication.
