We had the good fortune of connecting with Becca Gahm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Becca, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always loved animals and grew up with plenty of pet dogs. This has given me not only a love for dogs but I feel like I truly understand dogs and their personalities. When I first got our own Australian Shepherd Cortez aka Tez, I was taking puppy classes with him. I absolutely loved the experience of training with my dog and decided to become certified as a dog trainer myself. I began working as a trainer at PETCO and as more and more customers came in I felt called to start my own business. My main desire behind Come When Called comes from my passion for keeping dogs in their ‘forever home.’ It is so important for owners to connect with their dogs and to feel empowered to train their dogs themselves so they can have a deep bond, that will allow the dogs to have love filled life with their humans and so their owners can enjoy their time with their well-trained pups.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I graduated Missouri State with a psychology degree and I had always hoped to use my degree in a way outside of clinical psychology. My business Come When Called has given me an opportunity to use my degree and my natural relational skills to set my dog training business apart from others. It is my goal to not only train dogs to respond to cues and to be obedient but more than that I want to teach pet parents how to be more confident in training their own dogs. One of my biggest struggles I see with pet parents is that they do not know how to implement the training we have in class into their home life. I don’t live in my clients homes so my hope is that class can be as much about human training as it is about dog training. I also pride myself on helping pet parents told truly know their pup and hope to foster loving relationships between them built around respect and reinforced training. Come When Called is a new take on dog training that will hopefully stop you from having to pay to retrain your dogs and instead empower you to take your training into your home with you. I am excited to get to know all my clients and meet their personal needs with their dogs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love so many things I’ve discovered in the Denver Metro area. As a sucker for animals I always recommend the Denver Zoo or the Denver Aquarium. I also love being outdoors and Red Rocks has captured my heart and plenty of my cameras memory space. My husband and I enjoy going to local parks or walking on the highline canal trail. We came up with our first daughters name at Daniels Park creating a very special memory. We also love riding the scooters around 16th street and taking the light rail to rockies games. As for places to eat, we love places like Hapa Sushi, Tacos Tequila and Whiskey or Big Bills Pizza in highlands ranch. We enjoy little man ice cream in the summer or winter if you’re a true Colordan. The D(dessert) Bar downtown is a great place for anyone with a sweet tooth and we love grabbing hot chocolate and looking at Christmas lights in the winter.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give my shout-out to my friend Kavita who helped me take a personal hobby to more of professional setting. Id also like to give a shout-out to my loveable punk, Tez (my pup). He has brought me great joy in learning how to train professionally.
