Meet Blake Morgan | Owner: Kustom Ammo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blake, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I used to be a door-to-door sales rep in the south. During this time, I started to see shells on tables and desk of the homes I was in. These shells just had generic ammunition company names on them and maybe the shell shot size. It got me thinking how cool it would be if there we shells that had flags or logos on them. So I started looking online and could not find anyone doing this. I spent the next two years researching and developing a technique to make custom shells.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Kustom Ammo we believe you should shoot your shot. While we do not manufacture ammunition, we do add custom artwork to the hull of shotgun shells. We can put any logo or design you want, directly on a shell. We are the only company in the world who can provide high quality and custom shotgun shells.

Getting to where we are today has taken a lot of time and mistakes. Because nobody else was makes custom shotgun shells, I had to come up with a way to do this. I started with using stickers and then we tried vinyl wraps but nothing looked or felt good. After about 10 months, I discovered the process we use today and it is in fact patent pending.

Things were never as bad as I feared or as good as I hoped. This saying, that my father said often, helped me a lot during the way. When mistakes were made, I kept going. When things were good, I stayed humble and kept working.

At the end of the day, we want people to know that not only will you get amazing products from us but you will get even better customer service. We love our customers and love working with people in the outdoor industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After picking you up from the airport we would stop at In-N-Out on the way home. Locally we love to eat at Hearth, Sol De Jalisco and Austins. We love to hike and be outside so during the week we could visit Estes Park, hike Arthurs rock, and for sure catch a Colorado Avalanche game. For dessert we would get Crumbl cookies.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my wife. We have moved almost 15 times from coast to coast, in 10 years. We have started multiple businesses and added three wonderful baby boys during that time as well. This was very hard but it also brought us so close together. There is no way I would be where I am today without her.
