We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Busch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Chocolate is a very seasonal product, meaning my team and I are very busy Fall-Early Spring, and less so in the summer. Balance is clearly much harder to achieve in our busy season. I have recently made it a point to keep a daily schedule, and to schedule time to exercise, spend time with my family, and so forth. Balance has to be a decision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career is not easy, but it’s gratifying. As the owner of Lift Chocolate, I am tremendously proud of our products and our brand. As a Marine, I am proud of the unit that I belong to and our unique mission set. Air and Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies assist partner nation and coalition forces, control sea, air and ground-based fires, and are Airborne qualified. Succeeding in two very different disciplines is challenging. One is always at the expense of the other – but it’s a decision I have made and am comfortable pursuing two things that I enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Chris Widlar. I purchased my business from her several years ago, and she continues to work with me and advise me on all aspects of my business. Not to mention, she is an amazing chocolatier.
