We had the good fortune of connecting with Bria Henson Valdez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is an important part to personal growth and business growth. It requires being vulnerable and accepting failures along with the success. Every time I decided to take on a new concept for an event or holiday design that was over my head, it was a risk. I was scared to disappoint a client, but knew if we didn’t take a chance we could miss out on something beautiful. More times than not, it paid off. I would learn from that risk which broadened my skill set. If the risk didn’t succeed, it became a teachable moment. Learning from the failures is as important as the success. It helps you grown in wisdom and experience. I am still taking risks, and those risks still make my stomach turn until a project is complete. There is no greater joy then watching my hard work, success or failures, come together.

I am a holiday and event designer. Over 10 years ago I started working with a couple of clients designing their homes for Christmas. Each year I would add a new client by referral. All while working another full time job. I have grown my Holiday (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc.) design business by word of mouth. It really has been so amazing and I am so blessed to be trusted with creating beautiful homes for the holidays. I love pushing outside the lines of traditional Christmas or Holiday, looking to elevate the space to create stunning homes. A passion to create beautiful concepts for events started early in my life… often inspired by the OG, Martha Stewart herself, I found myself always thinking outside the box and creating concepts on little to no budget. That grew into a passion of mine. I love table-scapes and floral design. I love mixing textures and unexpected ideas to make a memorable event. Birthdays and showers can be unique and special and of course, never boring!!! For example, when I am brainstorming an event set up, I first think, how can your eyes first be pulled in to the beauty? Your eyes have to enjoy the experience as much as anything else. Beauty can be found in the details. By making this impression it sets the tone for the event that will leave guests with fond memories and lasting impressions of the special occasion. I am continually inspired by the queen Mindy Weiss and her amazing, inventive ideas. Additionally, I am currently working on mastering floral design. One day I hope on some scale to achieve similar aesthetic of Jeff Leatham. That’s a huge task to work toward, but his designs are breath taking. I am reaching high! If you were to know one thing about me, you should know that I am passionate about creating a memorable experience for your home or event. Always willing to think outside the box, collaborate with other creatives to accomplish and event you will be proud of. I love any kind of event, from birthdays and graduations to creating beautiful table-scapes for a special dinner party. I am a sponge constantly taking in information, learning, absorbing, Always hungry to create magic! Be Creative is my motto because you can ALWAYS find a way to create and elevate any moment or occasion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A few of my favorite spots around town include: Los Dos Potrillos Mexican food… home grown business and DELISH We would hang out at one night at Union Station for that Urban Vibe… We’d take a drive to Breckenridge so we could enjoy the view and eat at Giampietro for the calzone! Then of course have some crepes at Crepes A La Cart. We would have to fit in breakfast at Snooze or The Original Pancake House, go see Red Rocks, maybe take an easy hike somewhere along the front range. Finish off with some yummy Sushi at Johnny Holly’s in Lone Tree
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank You to my husband for taking on these events with me. You have helped me execute Holiday designs and all of my events, on top of your own full time job. (and all the million things I throw at you) Thank You to my family and friends who have supported my small business efforts for the last 10+ years. Your referrals and constant encouragement to move forward has given me the courage to stay the course. To my clients of 10+ years, you are AMAZING!!! Without you I couldn’t do what I am so passionate about. Thank you for your support!
