We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, what is the most important factor behind your success?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My parents bought me my first camera on a family trip to Manhattan, NY when I was in 8th grade. I later attended Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, DE, were I was introduced to video production. Upon graduation I joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a Combat Cameraman and then majored in Print Journalism at Delaware State University in Dover, DE.

After 10 years in the Marines, I switched the U.S. Naval Reserves also as a combat cameraman for two years and then to the Delaware Army National Guard as a photojournalist for two years. Finally, I spent the last ten years of my military career in the Air National Guard in both Delaware and Colorado as a chef, who from time to time assisted the Public Affairs Office with photography.

All of my military duty was part time serving in both the National Guard and Reserves. Full time I was first a news paper reporter and then a school teacher. I was able to combine my passion for media and youth together. In recent years, I’ve added teaching financial literacy to my arsenal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would strongly recommend Stanley Market Place. I love the various food options and the atmosphere fit for everyone. It also the perfect setting for photo sessions.
