We had the good fortune of connecting with Brieannon DuBois and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brieannon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
From a young age, I was always creative and loved to draw, paint and do pottery. I loved mixing colors, patterns and textures. I’ve also always been drawn to beautiful spaces. As a teenager, I worked at a local restaurant in the summers, busing tables to save up enough money to decorate my bedroom. I bought new furniture, bedding and throw pillows. I even painted the walls and changed out the lighting. I’m grateful that my mom let me have the freedom to express myself and create a space that was uniquely mine. I would spend hours rearranging everything, until it felt just right. That experience sparked something in me. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in interior design.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been in the industry for 18 years, working in residential, healthcare, corporate and commercial design sectors. My last interior design job was working in a fast pace environment. It was fun and exciting, but I became burnt out. I was looking for a change, after holding that design position for over 10 years. I knew I wanted to stay in the industry, but I felt a strong desire for more of a live/ work balance. We had just had our second child and I wanted to be able to have more flexibility and be able to take on the work that I enjoyed and that inspired me. In 2019, I took the leap and started my own interior design company, DuBois Interiors. I’m proud that I made that decision because it was terrifying at the time. The uncertainty was daunting but the excitement of building something entirely on my own, kept me moving forward. Looking back, it was absolutely the right time to make that career move, not only for me personally but professionally. That decision has given me the flexibility to spend more time with my family, while still focusing on my career and doing what I love.

Owning my company comes with challenges but it’s also very rewarding. I’ve learned that creativity is just one part of the equation. Running a business requires resilience, adaptability and willingness to solve problems. Building a brand from the ground up, means wearing many hats. While the process can be overwhelming at times, the freedom to create and shape my own vision and future has made every obstacle worth it.

I believe my brand has been built on the belief that great design should be accessible to everyone. Interior design isn’t just for luxury homes or big budgets, it’s about creating spaces that are not only beautiful but function and tailoring each project to each client’s unique needs and lifestyle. I love mixing old and new. Repurposing treasures and finding a creative solution that brings my client’s personality into each space. Everyone deserves a home that feels inspiring and comfortable. My goal is to pull together all the details and craft a design that is unique and approachable for each client. I feel really lucky to be able to do what I love each day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a best friend visiting Denver, we would start by grabbing lunch at El Taco de Mexico for their chile relleno burrito, smothered in green chili of course. That night we would go to a concert at Red Rocks. Which I believe is the best outdoor venue. The next day we would walk around the Denver Botanic Gardens. The gardens is such a special place, especially during the summer months. That night we would eat at Sap Sup Sua, our favorite new spots. Their food is fun and exciting – exactly what Denver was missing. Afterwards, we would head downtown to Union Station and go to the Cooper Lounge for high end cocktails and late night snacks. I love the ambiance at the bar and the service is always top notice. The next day, we would get massages at the Woodhouse Day Spa on 17th Ave. It’s such a special place in the historic Victorian home. To finish off the weekend, we would enjoy jazz at City Park. We would pack a picnic of pickles, charcuterie, cheese, mustards, bread, dessert and wine. Enjoying the food, company and jazz in the park!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been so many people along that way that have supported and encouraged me like my husband and family. For mentors, there are two special people that I would like to thank.

The first person I would like to recognize is Momo Wong. We met at The Art Institute of Colorado, where we both were studying interior design. Later crossing paths at local interior designer events and having mutual friends. When I started my interior design company in 2019, after working in the industry for over 12 years, Momo was very supportive. She had launched her company prior and had been in the industry longer. She’s become a constant source of inspiration. She has given me advice, encouragement and is always upbeat and positive. I can share ideas, thoughts and challenges and know that she’s going to be a great sounding board. We’ve even collaborated on projects together. More recently, we completed a project that was a true design collaboration, where we leaned into each other’s strengths to deliver something truly amazing for our clients. Women supporting women is so powerful! I feel incredibly lucky to have her in my life.

The second person I would like to recognize is Jeffery Elliott. Two weeks after graduation, I walked into Jeff’s office to apply for a job. He wasn’t even hiring at the time but was gracious and give me an interview. I was fresh out of college, buzzing with energy and excitement. I had always admired his work and wanted to focus on residential design. Shortly after the interview, he called me and offered me a job. I was over the moon excited! I learned so much from him as a young designer. Looking back, I was fortunate to work for someone of his caliber, right out of college. He was a great mentor and boss and created such a fun work environment. He made me a better interior designer.
