We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I feel the most important factor behind the success of my business is the environment created where people have a voice to tell their story and I cheerlead them along on their health journey. I have come through some personal health journeys that left me and my family being treated like we were the odd ones not fitting the mold, I was “just stressed” or treated like we did something wrong when really the doctor just did not know what was going on with my health. Moving ahead as a practitioner, I have always wanted to be what I did not have in the medical world and I feel it has made a difference. In my office, I get to see tears freely be released, kids tell me all about their birthday party, I am invited to sporting events, parents get to vent and express their frustrations, I empathize with patients enduring chronic illnesses and cheerlead them along as we figure out what the right next step is.
In this world, people just want to be seen and listened to. People want to be talked with versus talked at. Kids should be allowed to be kids and parents should have the freedom to express their true emotions when feeling overwhelmed. When that is the environment, I feel it opens the door for true healing and progress!

What should our readers know about your business?
Joyful Breathing is a Myofunctional and Breathing practice rooted in the hope of helping patients and families within the realm of sleeping, eating, breathing, speech and overall growth and development. I am most proud of being a pioneer in this field for the age group of 5 and under as that is a population not worked with often. It is a crucial time period to work with as 75% of the jaw is developed by age 3! I feel that catering to the population under 5 is unconventional but beyond powerful! It does take an extra ounce of creativity and patience but I feel is one of the most rewarding “against-the-current” kind of path one could take! I believe that if a little one can learn how to breathe properly, they will grow into an adult that has powerful coping skills when faced with stress, anxiety, etc.
Opening Joyful Breathing came from a season of trying to figure out what was next for me after leaving a practice that I did not resonate with anymore. I kept hearing stories about kids struggling with this or that that related to Myofunctional Therapy or Breathing Therapy and I quickly realized that it was a population not being met. This field can be daunting but I wanted to show that all ages can benefit, it can be fun and filled with hope, it can be silly and goofy all while making a huge difference in the health and wellness of families. The most important lesson my business has taught me is that being uncomfortable and going forward no matter how inadequate you feel is power! I never took a business course in college so I was learning it as I went and to this day, I feel like I am learning more about what I do not know! Within that knowledge of all that I do not know, I am still pushing forward and that is where I am learning way more than what I could have ever learned about business in a classroom.
I feel that the feeling of being inadequate holds us back from so much but if we face it head on and push forward no matter what, that is permanent growth that no one can take away from you! My business has challenged me so much but to look back at the beginning days, I am so glad with how it has refined and strengthened me to this point.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think the best spots around the area are The Molly Brown House, Coors Field and of course the mountains! I am a complete Downton Abbey nerd so to walk through The Molly Brown House and see the style and architecture of way back when is just so fun! A good ole baseball game with fresh squeezed lemonade never fails on a hot summer night! And no matter where you are from, the mountains are calling and you must go! Fresh air, birds chirping, minimal city noises; the best!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to God who planted this calling in my heart, gave me the courage to pursue it and for the true Joy He abundantly gives! Shoutout to my parents who have always encouraged me in anything I set out to do and for being true representations of joy, hope and love!
Shoutout to my brother for being the humor needed in life and for reminding me of my strength.
