We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Plaven and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Prior to owning Aerial Cirque Over Denver, I worked a 9-5 desk job, with little flexibility in my schedule. One of the things I value most about owning my own business is making my own schedule and having a better work life balance. It’s not that I work less with my business, but, I’m able to chose when I work and when I need time off. For me, it’s an overall better balance and allows me time for my kiddo, a weekday ski or hike, etc.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Aerial Cirque Over Denver (ACOD) was founded in 2004 as the first circus studio in Denver and has been offering exceptional classes in aerial dance and circus arts ever since. Our instructors are all certified and specialize in technique based aerial dance including classes in aerial silk (also know as aerial fabric), dance trapeze, aerial lyra (also known as aerial hoop), sling (also know as aerial hammock)! With two separate studio spaces and more than 4,000 square feet total, ACOD offers the largest training facility in the Denver metropolitan area. We are a unique fitness studio that caters to both youth and adult clientele. All our adult and youth classes are separated by age and level. We have worked hard at building our adult recreational program over the past few years and are proud to offer a fun, exciting, and challenging opportunity for adults to learn aerial arts!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my best friend’s is vegan, so we’d likely have a culinary extravaganza! Brunch would undoubtedly be at City’o’City. We’d then bike through Denver, getting some goodies along the way like DANG ice cream and stopping at Nooch vegan market for a few groceries. We’d picnic at a park before heading home. Dinner would be Somebody People! We’d be so full, but happy!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my amazingly supportive husband and all our absolutely wonderful staff at ACOD! Without their knowledge and passion for teaching, ACOD would not be what it is today.
