We had the good fortune of connecting with Calee Wilkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Calee, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Marilyn Monroe has become a huge inspiration to me as well as a role model. She had a rather rough childhood and struggled with mental illness; yet was still able to make a very successful career for herself. She was a very ambitious woman, and even ran her own production company. People assumed she was materialistic because of the roles she played, when in reality she only owned costume jewelry. She was able to change the world and has never been forgotten to this day for a reason. Marilyn also was an advocate for equal rights when racism was a lot more common. She even helped one of her best friends of color to get a job singing in a night club in LA. She was into women’s rights, and standing up for what you believe in. Marilyn would also make anonymous donations to varies charities in her short lifetime. Marilyn was so much more than just a beautiful face. She could be considered one of the first feminists. She was truly a beautiful women inside and out. I do strive to be like her and beyond.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am proud to say that I am a self-made professional freelance tattoo model. It has been a rollercoaster of a journey with modeling since starting three years ago. Being able to model and be creative has given me an outlet I didn’t even realize I needed at the time. My confidence has improved overall, and I have been able to make true friendships in the industry. There have been days where I have wanted to throw in the towel. However, I am so glad that I continued to push forward because now I can help girls younger than me with advice on how to stay safe, and start their own modeling journey. I want everyone out there to know that if you do stay focused on your dreams, they really can come true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
