Meet Candace Moyer | Fragrance & Skincare Designer and Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Moyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candace, what inspires you?
As corny as it may sound, I am inspired by the poetry of humanity: the ups and downs, the beauty we reflect in one another, and the emotions that paint this incredible road that we all have to walk.
As a young graduate at the age of 17, it was assumed of me to pursue a degree in music, but one day I decided I wanted to begin my education as a Massage Therapist to help heal the people. Little did I know that my career of 16 years as a Massage Therapist would not only help the people, but it would be one of the biggest assets in my personal healing journey. Let alone, eventually open the doors to my newest venture as an Artisan Perfumer and Skincare Formulator.
Now, with a different business but the same purpose, I have found inspiration in the emotions and reactions we as humans have to fragrances. When I started making candles three years ago, I was in the depths of postpartum depression. The first time I made a blend that reminded me of my childhood, I could feel the weight of the world release and my soul heal a little. That’s when I started thinking about how I can use my custom fragrances to bring that feeling to the world around me. Making candles eventually evolved to perfumery and skincare, because why not wear your heart on your sleeve?
I hope that in time, Clari’ Designs will inspire others to be their authentic selves and find ways to help one another through the ups and downs of life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Clari’ Designs is more than a product line, it’s a movement for self-love and positive change. Every product is made in small batches with custom fragrance blends that reflect an emotion or story, inviting people to ask themselves how a fragrance makes them feel. Sometimes it’s like a reflection of us that we cannot see anymore, or a part of us that we want to be more of.
I am excited to expand this year into larger expos and really focus in on my purpose of bringing awareness and contributions to teen mental health awareness. When I started this business, I wasn’t sure what its purpose was, I just knew that I loved doing it and it brought me joy. This last year my oldest son entered middle school in all its glory, and I soon began to see how hard it is for teens these days to maintain their mental health. Luckily, I was able to team up with a friend who owns a non-profit that brings awareness to teen suicide prevention. I knew right away that this was my business’s purpose: to support the mental well-being of our children, the next generation.
Getting to this point has not been easy, and I know that there are still many challenges ahead. Though, the tough times have taught me to be more fluid with creating and take a step back when I need a break. All I can do is keep learning, move forward and remind myself of the joy that creating brings me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to The Root Kava in Boulder first. I love the atmosphere and that they support local artists. Then we would probably go thrifting, or to the Lafayette Flea Market. If there were any good vendor markets happening I would take them there too. One of my favorite places to show people is Coot lake. There’s just something about it that is so peaceful and quiets the mind. For food I would probably have to say Ooka Sushi or Abo’s Pizza.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout to my husband who has supported me every minute of this new venture. He bought me the first fragrance oils and box of wax not knowing how far I would take it, and has still shown up to every market and event.
To my mom for painfully signing the Massage Therapy School papers for a minor, because I know how much she wanted me to pursue music. Ultimately, I would never have ended up here if it weren’t for her. And finally, to my family for their support, patience and reminding me daily of my purpose.
