Meet Carin Mari | Singer/Songwriter & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carin Mari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up in the mountains of Colorado has always made me feel inspired by the natural beauty and the gifts that are out there for us to enjoy. My appreciation for the world around me, I believe, helped inspire me to create my own art in the form of music and songwriting. I was exposed to the arts at a young age and specifically fell in love with music at 9 years old. I learned to play the piano and soon after the guitar. Mostly singing cover songs in my early career, I found myself being intrigued by the stories of the songs I would listen to and sing. The stories and perspectives that these great writers tell, truly made me want to share my own stories from my perspective and experiences.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where I am today has certainly not been easy, but it’s been wonderful. I look back at where I started, a 9 year old kid with a guitar who didn’t have a clue about show business, and now I’m an independent artists with a large following of fans who believe in my music. It’s incredible too see how far you can come with a little determination and a few dreams. It is a challenge to build a career by yourself without the help of the big producers in Nashville, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do. I’ve always believed in myself and what I stand for, which a lot of times they try to change to fit a particular mold, and I think that’s helped me get where I am. People want to see the real you, because the real you is relatable. We’ve all been through the good, the bad and the ugly if you will. Sharing my experiences with things like love, loss, adventure and overcoming life challenges has helped connect me to my audience and others who have been there, too. I’ve learned that it is so important to be kind. You never know what someone is going through and if you can be the kind light in their day, you’re doing something so important. Music is one of the most powerful tools to heal the heart in my opinion, so it’s an honor when people come up and share their stories and which of my songs moved them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a small mountain town in Colorado, so, I would take my best friend to the top of a mountain pass to see the views! I love to hike fourteeners, so being on top of a mountain is one of my favorite places to be and I would want to share that feeling. I might follow up the quick road trip with a wood fired pizza from the local pizza place and a campfire with s’mores to end the day. I believe it’s important to unplug from the world and look art the stars and be thankful for the simple things.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been so fortunate in my career to have such strong family support. They’ve always been there for me and helped me get where I want to go. Whether it be dog sitting my two pups while I’m on a tour, or traveling all night to help me get to a gig, they are the first ones there to help me. This definitely isn’t a career you can go into without having people to stand behind you to push you forward and pick to you up when you fall.
