We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly Liszewski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a mom of two, and a business owner of 2 businesses, work life balance has become more important to me each year. Before I had kids, I worked a corporate job, where I clocked in at 8 and left at 5. I was able to have my time after I left the office and on weekends to do whatever. After having my first kid, I realized that type of strict work time was not really way i wanted to live my life when I had a child to raise that needed me around. When I started my first business, there wasn’t much “life” in the work-life balance (or lack of balance). As most entrepreneurs know, starting a business and making it successful is a lot of hard work and sleepless nights, especially when you have also have a family As time went on and my business became more successful, I was able to add in the “life” part and started to grasp what this saying actually meant.

Since adding another kid and another business to my life, the “work-life balance” is more important to me than ever. Spray Tanning has allowed me to work while my kids are in school or sleeping, and still be around to take them to school, enjoy field trips and kiss them goodnight. I created this life to be able to have flexibility and I work to be able to enjoy time with my family and watch my kids grow…that is the POINT of all of the hard work! It is important to me for my kids to see that life is not about slaving away to make money and pay bills, but it is key to create a life that you enjoy and love, and can balance the way you want.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Let’s Glow Honey is a mobile and in-home spray tanning company. What I do is pretty straight forward – I give people spray tans (not the orange kind though). What makes me different from the rest and sets me apart is simple (and sounds conceded) but its me. I am HUGE on relationships and making people feel comfortable…let’s be real when you get a spray tan you have to undress down to your nude self, in front of a stranger. It is important to me that each person who steps in my tent can shed the nervousness and negative thoughts they have about the way they look. Everyone who comes to me is beautiful and perfect in their own way, and I want each person to know that no matter what “flaws” they see in themselves, I don’t see them at all! It is also important to me to educate my clients in how to properly care for their skin so they get the best out of my services.

I got to where I am today business-wise from learning from others on what I did not want to do. Lots of lessons have been learned along the way, mistakes have been made a long the way, but what is important is how you react and overcome those challenges and lessons. Every day is a learning experience and every day I am constantly trying to tech myself new ways to make myself and my service better, that is how you can ultimately be successful. Ultimately, if I make someone feel great about themselves, in the way that they look and feel about themselves. The world needs more positivity, and more people that love themselves for who they are and if I can aid in that, then my mission is accomplished!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy, where to start?! I’ve lived in Colorado Springs for almost 11 years and it has come such a long way in that amount of time. Some of my absolute favorite places to eat are – Osae’s Sushi and Ramen, Beast and Brews, Dos Santos and Bonny & Read. I’m also a big brewery girl and love FH Beerworks, Manitou Brewery and Goat Patch. You can never go wrong with a walk around Old Colorado City and Manitou, or a drive through Garden of the Gods.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There are so many people in my life that have had an impact in helping me get to where I am now. My success is credited by my parents, who were both entrepreneurs and taught me what working hard for your family means and teaching me its okay to chase my dreams. Another is one of my greatest friends, Rachel, who is not only my business partner for one business but someone who has taught me the actual BUSINESS side to running a business (because most don’t understand that it can be the hardest part of having your own business). and, of course, my husband, Adam, also deserves A LOT of credit for supporting me in my crazy business endeavors, never complaining when I have to do something “quick” for work, and helping me with our kids during my late nights and long days.
