Meet Carol Mier | Fashion designer / collector of beautiful, unusual fabrics

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Mier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Designing fashions, restyling garments & sewing has always come natural for me so it really wasn’t hard to pursue that for a living. Keeping a 9 – 5 job & being on time & doing the work exactly one way was very difficult for me because my mind works creatively with ideas & images. I feel I have to put these designs into a garment. It is a PULL I have that drive me to continue. I get depressed if I am not creating something. I usually got fired from basic jobs so I really didn’t have a choice but to keep doing what I liked. It always seemed to work out & fall into place. I will get work or sell something when I need the money. II have been very fortunate to be able to do this for a living for the past maybe 30 years.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe it is SO important to follow your passion. Know things will fall into place.
You may not make allot of money in beginning but you may find people to trade. You will get what you need.
Working mainly to make money will not fulfill your soul. Will that make you happy?
People may mean well by telling you to pursue something you are not happy
with however, YOU will not be satisfied inside.
There is such an INCREDIBLE satisfaction when you see how people just glow when you make them something that compliments & fits whom they are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver has such an incredible mix of local restaurants, musicians, art showings, plays. It would be difficult to just choose one.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very thankful to my friends & my clients all encouraged me to keep going. The list of everyone would be way long to mention everyone.
I was self-taught & also took many individual sewing & fine art classes.
My mom was so proud of my designing.
