We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Elise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caroline, how do you think about risk?
Risk is like sugar, everyone has their own taste for it. Without it, things are pretty bland. I believe in f*cking around and finding out. If you never try, you will never really know. I spent a long time playing it safe and avoiding risk. Doing what I thought I should do and what I thought others would approve.
My ‘taste’ favors calculated risk. I owe where I am in life to taking some select and specific risks like
– Living abroad in a country where I didn’t know the language
– Moving across the country solo
– Leaving my full time corporate job
– Trying out and launching multiple businesses
Risk can all at once be scary, exciting, rewarding, penalizing. What I’ve learned is that it’s important to find what your taste is, and then test your boundaries. It is uncomfortable, but if you never take a chance and try, you’ll never really know.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an actor and filmmaker, I am most proud of creating work that makes people feel and think. Every time I create, it is an opportunity to reach people, whether to entertain and laugh or to invite in intense feels and serious thinking. I think the best way to reach people with new ideas is through entertainment and working in media is a great avenue for helping to turn the world into a kinder and more accepting place.
It was not easy to get to where I am now as a working actor (and it will not be easy getting to where I ultimately want to go). Every day is filled with countless rejections and there is little to no stability, predictability or consistency. What I’ve learned from this is resiliency and consistency. But, most importantly, self-love and acceptance, specifically how to build a strong and confident foundation that is difficult for others to sway.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my family who support everything I do. Shoutout to my chosen family that I met in Mexico who encouraged me to step out of my imposter syndrome, embrace my identity and chase down my dreams.
