We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Bowman, MA, PCC, CLC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Walk gently and with an open heart. I heard this years ago and it always stayed with me. It encapsulates the way I try to live. Approach life gently, without force or trying to control the present moment. Allow the experience in front of you to unfold as it will and by doing so, you and your life will become that much more full.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I learned through my own recovery from alcoholism that service is the touchstone that ultimately connects me to myself and others. The (perceived) freedom I found in alcohol is found in this shared human experience with another. There are often times I feel lacking as a mom or as a friend or as a daughter, but when I coach I stand in my true and authentic self and step into a space where I feel I am the most “me”.
I believe, in all aspects of our lives, when we change our focus from ourselves to someone or something else, some internal shift happens and when we “come back’ to ourselves, again our perception (emotions, thoughts, physiology) has shifted to a more connected state. Coaching is both for me and my clients. I am of service, and at the same time I am strengthened by stepping out of myself (my stories, “problems”, etc.) in the focus, care, and support of another human being. My work both helps connect my client and brings me more internal connection as well. Some of the greatest joys of my life have been felt and experienced while coaching. Not because I “get” anything but because I am part of something greater than me. I continue to be healed through facilitating the healing of others.
Seeing others begin to change, grasp new perceptions, think in a more expansive way, experience their lives fundamentally differently, is nothing less than incredible. I still, to this day, find wonder in it. It is a reminder of the power that we all have and my role is simply to facilitate that journey for them. There’s nothing magical about me. I share the same experience, through my own filter, that we all do. How we interpret it is what makes us different (and the re-interpretation of this is the core of what I teach).
I have been a student of people and human dynamics since I was a child, and have a deep understanding and intuitive sense of how and why people think, feel, behave, and choose what they do. When I can help them to see what they cannot see, they become more alive and able to participate in the lives that they have created.
If I could put my role into two sentences it would be:
I help people radically transform by experiencing themselves differently. I help people wake up. I help people wake up to their lives.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughters. Scarlett and Georgia, have been the driving force behind my never-ending quest for self-awareness, extending the hand to others as years ago they extended the hand to me, showing up true and authentically me, and living and loving life for the true gift that it is. It is our birthright, I believe, to go home to ourselves, but for many, they don’t know where this is or how to get there. My daughters have paved this path with me and have taught me more about myself than any other experience has. For them, I am forever grateful.
