We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassidy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business parter Brian Milhaupt and I are old rock climbing buddies dating back almost 20 years. His background is in professional brewing with an education in chemistry, while my professional career has centered around food and beverage service with a degree in business management. While climbing at different locations across Colorado, Utah, and California we dreamed up the idea of opening a brewery together and in 2016 made the dream a reality with Green Mountain Beer Company.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Green Mountain Beer Company focuses on making “Old World Brews with a Colorado Soul”. We take inspiration for our recipes from traditional brewing methods and ingredients and stir in the tastes and desires of our Colorado community. I think that what sets us apart is our commitment to that community that we have strived to create from the beginning, We recently celebrated four years of serving Lakewood, CO, and now in our fifth year of business its easy to reflect on the experiences that brought us where we are today. Our business is all about the people involved. Brian and I shared a passion for craft beer and a dream to build a place for the community to come together and enjoy what we knew we had to offer. Our knowledge of business management and experiences in the service industry told us that our biggest challenges would be building the right team of people to pull this off. Green Mountain has been fortunate from the outset to have been surrounded by a team of people that share our passion for craft beer and a clientele that frequent our establishment to enjoy it. If we have learned anything along the way that we would impart to fellow beer lovers, it is that the quality and integrity of our beer and our service is our number one priority and we will stop at nothing to uphold the high standards that we have come to be known for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welcome to Colorado! You are about to go on an adventure, Green Mountain Style! After a quick breakfast and coffee at Big Daddy Bagels in Golden, we are going rock climbing in Eldorado Canyon. Afterwards its lunch and a beer on the patio at Southern Sun Brewery in Boulder Colorado. Back in Golden we can have another pint at Cannonball Creek Brewing Co. before enjoying a classic Golden Colorado dinner at Woodys Woodfired Pizza. Over the course of the week we will mountain bike in Buffalo Creek, play in the Clear Creek River Park, see a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater, have some beer and catch a summer concert at New Terrain Brewing Company, and make certain not to miss the authentic nepalese food at Sherpa House in golden. Other don’t miss front range breweries include our friends at Over Yonder brewing in golden, and Locavore Beer Works and Jackass Hill Brewery in littleton.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Colorado craft brewing community is amazing. While building our brewery, there was never any shortage of advice or assistance offered by fellow professionals in the industry. Shoutouts go to all of the Mountain Sun Pubs for showing us the importance of community, to our friends at Cannonball Creek Brewing Co. for inspiration with their business model and for their fantastic beer, Crooked Stave for their excellence in brewing sour beer, and to Beirstadt Lagerhaus and Prost Brewing for setting the benchmark in locally brewed German style Lagers. Also, you don’t hear this often from a craft brewery, but a major shoutout to Coors, where our brewer Brian cut his teeth in the profession, for maintaining excellence in brewing systems and processes. Brian left there with brewing standards that could carry a professional brewer far in any part of the world.
