We had the good fortune of connecting with Clare Keil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Clare, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career in hair and makeup because it allowed me to constantly be creative as well as help people feel beautiful. In this industry you have the ability to share your individual style, skill and artist outlook while helping others confidence and beauty.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently am working at Holistic Salon located in The Rhino District as well as Ember Hairstream which is based in Boulder. I am incredibly lucky to be where I am today. I got to this place by putting myself out there and taking every single opportunity I was given. While in beauty school I was offered a opportunity to work with a mobile wedding hair and makeup salon. I had never even considered getting into that career, however I said “why the hell not”. 5 years later I am still with that company and am one of the top stylist. It wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t overly difficult. Being aware of your potential and taking advantage of opportunities that come up is an easy way to exceed. I have learn so many lesson in being in this industry; 1. give yourself a break. You can’t please everyone and that’s okay, as long as you try. 2. Never stop learning. Everyone in every industry has different ways of doing things, different strong suits and different tactics. 3. Choose happiness. My brand is self love, happiness and beauty. I strive with every client to really find what they want and do my best to make that happen, if that is extensions or bridal makeup. I want every client to feel happy and loved when they walk out the salons door.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a HUGE foodie and Denver is the perfect place to be one. If my best friend came out here I would begin the trip with breakfast at Denver Biscuit Company followed by a nice walk down Tennyson. Dinners would include Uchi, Giovannis Broken Italian, Machete and El Five. We would have a nice time day drinking and eating at Recess. I would make sure to show them the beauty in every place. From Colfax and seeing all the old school neon signs to Breckenridge and the love in a little mountain town. Red Rocks has a special place in my heart and I truly think everyone should experience that at some point in their lives. Some special about Colorado and Denver is the uniqueness in every neighborhood. South Broadway, Rhino, Golden, Evergreen and Morrison are just a few that have their own specific “vibe”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout of all of the service industry and beauty industry workers. This has been an incredibly difficult time for all of us, sending all the love joy and power to all.
