We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chad, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a creative career because it allows me to express who I am through my work. The only boundary to a creative or artistic career is your imagination. A lot of people that have creative jobs in the corporate industry are completely miserable due to having left and right limits placed on their creativity. Being able to shoot a portrait or edit a video exactly the way I see it in my mind is priceless. That’s the overall goal; grab a clients attention though previous work and have them trust me and give me complete creative control on a project.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well I started lenzwork in 2018! I knew absolutely nothing about photography and cinematography, so I turned to the worlds most inexpensive learning institution – YOUTUBE. I spent countless hours watching tutorials from people like Peter McKinnon, Chris Has, Matti Haapoja and Jared Poland. Fast forward a few years later and I was booking photoshoots and music videos left and right. Then BOOM! COVID-19!!!

When COVID came, my entire business began to die. I had almost 30 graduation photoshoots cancel due to the social distancing recommendation. This is where is got extremely difficult. I now had to find a way to keep my business going while also being safe! That’s when it hit me. I could shift my focus from people to commercial products and that’s exactly what I did. Getting into product photography and social media ads has completely changed my creative process because it challenged me to think outside if the box.

Eventually I want the Lenzwork brand to be in every major city. I talking franchise portrait studios and creative studios where other artist can come and rent out the space and gear they need to b successful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area we definitely hit up Estes Park and do the Sky Pond Hike. We’d get some epic photos and vlog the entire thing for YouTube. On the way back we’d stop at a random hole in the wall BBQ restaurant for some slow smoked brisket the Colorado way!

In my opinion all of the best things to do in Colorado are all outside. There’s Estes Park, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and even Red Rock Open Space. It’s time to get outside and enjoy everything other nature has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shout out to all of supporters who have kept me going over the years. Thank you! Without all of your help there’s no doubt that I wouldn’t be here today.
