Meet Charles Brantley Jr | CJ tha DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Brantley Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charles, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was starting from the bottom and rising to the top. I first wanted to purchase all of the equipment that was necessary to perform. Secondly, I had to be able to download music and transition songs as best as I could, which took some time. Finally, I was ready to get business cards made and start passing them out.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Alot of my professionalism comes from my military service in the U.S. Army. I was deployed to Iraq in 2003 and I was always able to tune into some music and regulate my emotional and mental state. After the service, I worked for the federal government as a Program Analyst, which elevated my computer and organization skills. I use these knowledges and abilities into my DJing business because I feel like the crowd or people that I am playing music for, may have similar experiences in life of using music to get away from sorrow, stress or maybe just to celebrate a good time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting me in Denver, Colorado. We would go to Oasis Bar and Grill on Wednesday for Car and Bike Night, followed by Flavor of Havana for Karaoke. Thursday we would go to Pappaduex and Fat Boys Restaurants to enjoy food, drinks and good company. Thursday night we would go to Oasis Bar and Grill for Ladies Game Night. Friday we would bar hop to Challenger’s, Randall’s and Mr. A’s. Saturday we would hang out downtown and go to the Blackhawk Casinos. On Sunday we would watch NFL, go fishing, visit a Car Show or find a BBQ party at a park somewhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to Apex Sports Lounge for giving me my first opportunity. Shout out to Flavor of Havana for also hiring me and believing in my longevity. Shout out to DJ J-Luv for explaining MP3 vs MP4 music formats. Shout out to DJ Scottie Fresh for showing me how to download music videos. Shout out to DJ Spicy Ice for helping me advance with transition songs. Shout out to DJ Rallo for always recommending me and also believing me. I must also say Rest In Peace to my family members and friends who also believed in my journey and they are never forgotten. Lastly, a big THANK YOU! to everyone who has supported me and hired me to be their DJ. Much Love Always! – CJ tha DJ
