We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Siss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meredith, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is 100% necessary if you want to grow as a business, or as a person. The more comfortable you are with risk – the stronger leader you will be. Risk is a part of the job description as a modern entrepreneur! I have had to take so many risks running my own company. When I first left my 9-5, I thought that was the biggest risk I would take as a business owner – haha was I wrong! Every day I cozie up with risk and put myself, my work, and my message out there in a big way. How do I manage all the risks I have to take? With Self Confidence. I know no matter what I will land on my feet, I will be ok, I will be happy and I will be successful. When you believe that at your core – risks really just become exciting choices you get to make to grow yourself and your business!
What should our readers know about your business?
Starting a business is something I never thought I could do, growing up deaf. Until the age of 9, I could hardly communicate with those around me let alone dream of leading them. But it was in that silent time of my life that I grew my courage and resilience. Two vital skills that make me the business leader I am today. I always had the spark to be an entrepreneur, it is in my blood. While I didn’t get to know them, both sets of my Grandparents had owned businesses throughout their lives. Their passion was passed down to me. This caused me some trouble in my life though! I don’t like to follow the paths that others take- I like to do things my way. Yea, the “corporate” world – they don’t like people like me very much, haha. I was very often picked on, singled out, shut down, or belittled. But that just fueled my need to change the world around me. I did what I learned at an early age – tune out all the bullshit! I didn’t listen to the people who want to tear me down or tell me I was not good enough. Entrepeunrs change the world through innovation, sometimes that rubs people the wrong way – but that is why we need to do it! It is this passion that I built my business upon. I used it to fuel my decisions and rewrite how a digital marketing agency “should” be created. I learned from others who were really doing it, trusted myself, and took a chance. What grew is the most amazing business I could dream of and an amazing life with my partner Nick. Running a successful business is about knowing who you are and why you serve. When you show up each day with a heart full of love, excitement, and dedication – the most beautiful things in life will unfold.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love checking out Boulder when people come to visit. We always have to stop in at the Bohemian Biergarten since the Honey Bite is my favorite drink ever! Usually followed by some great shopping at all the wonderful small businesses in town. Denver is all about craft beers and amazing food for me! There are so many great choices you just can’t go wrong. You will very often find me and Nick enjoying all Denver has to offer before we catch a show at The Oriental, the Roxy, the Summit, the Bluebird Theather, or the Ogden. We are huge music fans so we try and take everyone to shows if they are willing! When we are showing off our local town of Loveland, CO – we always start with the Devil’s Backbone – it is a great place to hike! This is often followed by a trip to Sweetheart Winery and maybe even Blue Stone crystal shop. For dinner, Henrey’s is always a great choice but The Mexican Inn is one of our favorite lesser know restaurants we just love to take people to!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Some people are put in our lives to guide us in ways we never knew. Our company would never be what it is today without the partnership and dedication of Nick Huggins. No matter what was going on, no matter my mindset, or roadblock he has always been a guiding light for our business. His willingness to try and learn has taken our company to amazing heights. I never could have done it without him!
