We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlie, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Playing music makes me happy because it’s fun!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love writing music. When I’m inspired to write a piece of music, I feel a connection to something greater than myself. Sometimes I write things that feel deeply personal. Those are usually the songs that people tell me really resonate with them too.
It can be very rewarding to feel like I’ve accurately communicated my view of the world or a deeply held belief in the form of a song. Some things can be hard to communicate, even in a conversation, but to play a three or four minute song for someone and have them walk away feeling like they understand how you view the world is a really cool thing!
That is my aim as a songwriter. I feel like I’ve achieved this at least a few times with my songs; Success, Time, Crying for Change, Steal Your Money, Knowledge and a few others.
I’m incredibly grateful for all the people who enjoy listening to my music!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Fort Collins. I like to bring out-of-towners to the Colorado Room because they feature food sourced locally in Colorado.
I would also bring them to Avogadro’s Number, Maxline, Equinox or anywhere that had good music!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people to thank for helping me along my journey, but I will always trace it all back to Andy Buzzi.
Andy was my guitar teacher when I was about twelve years old. He treated me like an adult, and a friend, and challenged me to grow as a guitarist.
His presence in my life at that time, and belief in me, helped me become the person I am today. I realized I not only wanted to pursue a career in music, but I wanted to be that positive figure in some else’s life. This inspired me to become a professional musician and music instructor. I strive to treat my students with the same level of respect and inspire them to discover their love of music!
