We had the good fortune of connecting with Chas Mizer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chas, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be a rockstar. I have always loved music. To be a professional musician has been a goal of mine ever since I picked up my first pair of drumsticks around the age of four. Eventually I started music producing and sound engineering for myself. I figured, I like what I do, and other people might too… enough to pay for it! Being immersed in music my whole life has given me the opportunity to grow and learn the skills I needed to focus my music to start making money for me, and that’s exactly what I am tying to do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create music that feeds the soul. I inspire the mind to take journeys and get lost in the imagination. The body moves and feels certain ways with certain sounds and frequencies, and I love to tap into those aspects to get the audience moving and grooving. It’s taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where I am now. I’ve spent endless hours in the studio creating, and exploring music and sound. It is not easy by any means, to acquire this knowledge and skill, but it sure is fun for me! My biggest challenge is finding an audience. But with lots of networking and a great base of talent, my music can spread to a larger audience.
Getting my music out to the world is a whole other realm of the business that, unlike music, I have not spent decades researching. Putting myself out there is hard. I have the opportunity to work with some amazing individuals on my team that help me to overcome some of these challenges.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The underground Bass Music scene in Denver is one of the best of its kind in the whole world. I would recommend to anyone visiting to go to a show. There are so many amazing artists playing at so many amazing venues in Denver, it’s often hard to choose which show to go to. Along with actual venues having amazing weekly shows, there are also pop up raves all over town in different venues and warehouses. If my best friend came to visit, we’re hitting all the shows. We’d start the week out at Black Box. Submission’s Electronic Tuesdays, are a hotspot for some of the best underground bass music talent in Denver. Later in the week we’d go to Shift Thursdays at Cervante’s. These nights are stacked with well known rising artists you can still catch in an intimate setting. Once the weekend comes, we’re going to Red Rocks or Mission Ballroom for the headliner acts with thousands of crowd members. Then, the after parties. If there isn’t a grimy warehouse rave happening that you heard about from a friend, then the after hours clubs like Sugar Cube are the place to be. Music till the break of dawn-literally!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without my best friend Tommy Presson.
It was the early years of living as bachelors diving deep into the world of electronics for hours on end, filling the whole apartment with all sorts of gadgets and devices for creating sounds and manipulating music which gave me that creative flow that really inspired me to be where I am today. I’d also love to shout out my Indubitably team- Taylor Bourns my artist manager, and Christian Brooks my media manager. Their belief in me and my music has given me the confidence to really get myself out there and take the risks I need to further my career. And of course, my girlfriend Jackie. She always keeps me inspired to create and appreciate my self worth.
