We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea, Liz, Jevaughn Drew, Lawrence, Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, Liz, Jevaughn, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Liz Lawrence: I choose both an artistic and creative career because they’re both my passion and purpose which allows me to help other like minded people along the journey. After quitting my 9 to 5 two years ago I can’t imagine myself going back to the lifestyle of working for someone else. I’m in full control of my day to day and I enjoy being able to make a career out of my passions. Being able to do what you love everyday is a blessing that I am forever grateful for.
Chelsea Drew: I chose an artistic career for creative freedom. In challenging myself through entrepreneurship, I realize the limitless potential for expression that exists inside, and the path leads home for these ideas. I feel grateful to be able to do what I love everyday and help others along the way.
Jevaughn Williams: I pursued the creative career of being an artist because ever since I was a young kid in Jamaica whenever I created art in any form I felt free to be myself, to express who I am through the world around me. Whether that be playing music, writing or fashion design. I hope to inspire more kids and adults like me that are creative to pursue art despite the notion society has on it. I believe everyone has an inner genius within them and art and creativity have a way of unlocking that. Art has a beautiful way of bringing people together for the right reasons.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Liz Lawrence: I am most proud and excited about the journey. I have been pursuing my art for ten years and I can see myself evolving and growing over time. Finding the right people to surround myself with to create and grow together is the most fulfilling part. Once you realize you can’t do everything by yourself and let go of your ego beautiful things can happen. I am happy to say I have found my creative community and everyday I look forward to fostering our community and growing together.
Chelsea Drew: I feel most proud and excited about the vision of bringing people together in unity through our collaborative efforts. The idea of creating space for people to be themselves is the most fulfilling aspect of this work, and we are excited to continue to grow the infrastructure needed to bring us all together
Jevaughn Williams: One lesson I’ve learned along the way is to have patience, nothing worth having just happens overnight. I’ve also learned working with a community of people who truly believe in one another makes the journey to the goal so much better. One of the best feelings is working hard for something you really want and achieving it as cliche as it sounds.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thrifting: We would take a trip to our two vintage collective shops we own in Colorado Springs, The Hause Collective in Citadel Mall and The Hause Thrift & Lounge in Chapel Hills Mall. Let our homies experience the shops and browse vintage and custom clothing to add to their wardrobe.
Night Life: We would checkout Soul Hause our community event space there’s usually an event going on: Yoga, Live Music, Workshops,Pop Up Shop and Private Events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This Shoutout is dedicated to Dear Summer Fest. If it wasn’t for Dear Summer Fest Soul Hause wouldn’t exist. Last summer the three of us (Chelsea Drew, Liz Lawrence and Jevaughn Williams) created a two day music and arts festival in Manitou Springs, CO. The festival was 70s themed with an ensemble of local artists, musicians, & small businesses collaborating to create an experience for the community. Dear Summer Fest is an annual event and we can’t wait to announce the dates for 2022. Give us a follow on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to stay connected and updated.
