We had the good fortune of connecting with Chester ] Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chester ], what matters most to you?
The principle that matters most to me is give and it will be given unto you. Those are the words of Jesus of Nazareth and they resonate 2,000 years later. Hoarding talents, giftings, skills and even money is poison. By giving to others you can help lift them and create a culture around you that gives. Selfishness is the road to destruction. Giving opens up an environment where true love and charity can thrive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a wildlife journalist which means I make my living writing about fishing, wildlife, hunting and conservation. i set out to do this when I was 19-years-old and haven’t stopped since. I’ll be 49 in October so that’s 30 years. It was not easy. It’s still not easy. The biggest challenges were having different ideas than a lot of the people in the business at the time I entered it. But I stuck to my guns and created a brand that’s uniquely me.
I have learned that details really matter and that if I think a story concept is interesting and it excites me that means it will excite others. You cant’ create great content that you’re not excited about.
If you want to get in-depth wildlife information that inspires check out what I’m doing through Higher Calling Wildlife, the podcast and www.highercalling.net.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll give two answers-where I live and where I aspire to live one day.
At my home in Orange, TX I would take them fishing in Sabine Lake for flounder, speckled trout and redfish. We would eat at Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp and hang out at my facility the Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center.
Where I aspire to live one day is Estes Park, Co.
We would spend most of our time driving around, hiking, fishing and doing photography in Rocky Mountain National Park. We would eat at Mama Rose’s my favorite Italian restaurant ever and hang out around beautiful Lake Estes.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Lisa has been an incredible supporter as well as my mother Gloria. I would also like to give a shoutout to people who have used their talents to the max and shared them with the world that touched my life at various points in life ranging from Ronnie James Dio, Kenny Omega, Austin Stevens, Marlin Perkins, Jim Fowler and too many others to lsit.
