We had the good fortune of connecting with CheyAnne Clemons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi CheyAnne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved workout clothes and have been an active person. When I was younger I would buy from Nike and Under Armour a lot. As I got older I started purchasing from more online brands like Gymshark and Alo. I started to get frustrated that the really high quality activewear pieces were so expensive, but when I shopped less expensive brands either the products would be lacking or the customer service would be lacking. I was still spending around $50-$60 on one piece of active wear so it was frustrating to feel like the company wasn’t meeting my needs. I knew wasn’t the only person who was frustrated about this kind of thing, so Shine Athleisure was born. We are providing top of the line, high quality pieces at a lower price point.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Shine Athleisure in January of 2021 so we have been in business almost a whole year!

What set us apart from other activewear companies is that we fit in that sweet spot between extremely expensive products and lower priced products that lack quality. Shine Athleisure is providing top of the line, high quality products at a lower price point so that women can purchase products that will last them years without having to spend $100+ on one item. We are also committed to manufacturing our products right here in the USA. This helps support sustainability and ethical working conditions.

We are also building a strong community around Shine Athleisure. We want to make sure we are providing value in all areas of wellness; physical, mental, and spiritual. We have been doing this in a couple of different ways. We hosted free yoga in the park classes over the summer, we are partnering with another small business for a healthy meal planning cooking class, and we plan on having mental health professionals provide resources and valuable information on our socials. We want to help women achieve wellness in all areas and we will continue to provide value in all those areas.

I’m so proud of this business because I believe it’s going to make a big impact in people’s lives. When you buy a new outfit to workout in, it can reinvigorate you to keep going and achieve your fitness goals. While helping women feel good during their workouts, I also want to help women find resources and valuable information about all around wellness. I’m proud to be providing that for women so that they can shine their brightest inside and out.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is great because my best friend does come and visit me as she lives in Arizona now.
I think the first place I would take her is downtown Colorado Springs. A lot of work has been put into our downtown and I think it is changing for the better. We love walking around and looking at the local shops and supporting small businesses. Some of my favorite places are Eclectic Co, Coati, and The Perk Downtown. We would definitely chase down my favorite food truck, Huevones, for lunch!

Colorado has so many wonderful things to do and see that it’s hard to narrow it down.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporter and cheerleader is my boyfriend. He deserves the biggest shoutout of them all. He has helped me with so many things from packing orders, storing the many leggings, to fighting burnout. I am so thankful to have him by my side while building the business.

I also wanted to shoutout one of my favorite podcasts, Rebel Entrepreneur! This podcast has given me so many ideas of things I can do in my own business, I even listen to the episodes multiple times. If you are just starting your business and haven’t listened to this podcast yet, you should!
