We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind creating my brand was an exciting and thoughtful process. It was important that I was comfortable & authentic with being out in the open with my cannabis consumption. It was also of major importance that I create a safe space for black and brown women who are suffering silently from various mental health conditions as well as to use my many platforms to educate advocate and entertain on this life saving plant. I’m someone who has dealt with major depressive disorder, anxiety and PTSD, and for the longest time I felt alone. I felt that being more open and vulnerable about some of my life experiences and how I’ve been able to use cannabis to help combat a lot of things that have negatively effected my life & body could help with the negative stigma around cannabis and to let others know that they’re not alone in this fight for life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m really excited about this new season of my YouTube series titled Smoke ‘n Chat. In this new season we’ll be having guest from all over on, which is new for me and I’m just really looking forward to the opportunity to smoke ‘n chat with others in this community & to learn about their personal journey. I think this new season is going to be a stand out for sure, due to us expanding our territory and creating real and authentic relationships within this community. I’m also going to be sharing more on my personal journey in life and in the cannabis space.
I was able to get here today by going to therapy and doing the work . This time last year I was dealing with a lot of health issues, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder 3 weeks before losing my younger stepbrother to a sudden massive heart attack; all of that combined really rocked my world and I had to stop and take care of myself. I went to an IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) at Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center in Denver; doing the work with my mental health is what got me here. And no, it was not easy. Unpacking all of your life’s mess can get real ugly, but it’s totally worth it. Unpack your ish (mess) and deal with it with a professional.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a hard one for me as a former recluse, I’ve just started getting back out the house this summer but let’s see what I can come up with.
I don’t like having a heavy or rigid schedule when traveling, so in no particular order:
Spark & House of Dankness Dispensaries
Tetra to do a lot of smoking ‘n chatting (pun intended)
Snooze for the pancake flight
Vibes in the Park
Jazz in the Park
Mimosa for the shrimp & grits
Red Rocks
Meow Wolf
Drive down to the Springs to eat at Rudy’s BBQ and What A Burger
Drive to Idaho Springs to eat at Smokin’ Yards
Machete for their Happy Hour
Take a hike at Lookout Mountain
We’d definitely hangout on Welton Street
We’re going to the Creamery for a #4 smothered, a relleno smothered and, a regular relleno
A night out to 4Play
And of course, if there’s a show in town we’re getting tickets to that
That’s all I’ve got right now…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God for being my guiding light on my path.
My mom, grandma and, stepdad for being my support system, keeping me accountable, your reminders of who I am and all that I’m capable of and your patience with me is much appreciated.
All of my therapist for teaching me about myself, life skills, helping me to unlearn unhealthy habits and for challenging me to truly love & believe in myself.
