We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Connell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work-life balance is an interesting and fluid concept for me. I am a full-time lawyer. I pursue creative passions – such as photography and writing – on the side through my social media accounts and blog, christinexploring. When I first started christinexploring, I was in law school, working several jobs to (barely) make ends meet. For a while, my life was more work-work balance. My free time was spent working on christinexploring, which, though fun, eventually started to drain me. As I have progressed in my legal career, I’ve learned to let myself have more of a balance. When a creative project is fun or appealing to me or is something I believe strongly in, I take it. However, I no longer feel obligated to take every good opportunity. I also no longer put pressure on myself to post consistently or go out and get content. With less pressure, I’m able to keep both of my jobs fun, and keep myself energetic and engaged in any projects I take.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I take photos of and write about my travels. I have always loved traveling, and am so excited I have been able to make it part of my career. I’ve spent a lot of time learning about photography, editing, and social media. I’ve talked with friends, watched YouTube videos, and watched what other people have done. And I still have A LOT to learn. It’s hard to stay relevant in a field that is filled with so many talented people, but I try to be authentically myself and share my genuine experiences.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Restaurants (all have vegan options!): Watercourse, City O City, Linger, Root Down Rent a car and drive to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Paint Mines Interpretive Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Also drive to Golden – it’s a former gold rush town with a lot of character! In Denver, walk around the different neighborhoods such as RiNo and LoDo. They all have different feels and Denver is a fun city. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of my best friends, Katherine Bacon, has been a huge influence in my life! Katherine has talked me through big life decisions and has accompanied me on adventures and helped me get content! Katherine had also taught me more about photography and helped me learn how to pose better in photos. Katherine is a wedding photographer @kaybaconphoto and also an adventurer @kay_bacon. If you’re considering an adventure elopement, I could not recommend her more!
