We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Gulick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, how do you think about risk?
I was born from an artist. I say this because my mother was an artist.
Mom was my first and primary mentor.
I learned all the basics from her, light source, shadow, depth, in 2d, and 3d, by the time I was in 3rd grade.
So, regarding the word RISK…I simply work.
The only things being risked are time, energy, money, and…SANITY.
Many times, I have told myself, “I QUIT”.
Then I wake up the next day and say, “Hey….I gotta GREAT Idea!’
 

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t have any type of higher ed shingle hanging on my studio wall. I don’t need one.
I was born to be an artist, as I’ve already mentioned.
When I need info regarding a project I have embarked upon, I call up
any of the dozens of professional educators, craftworkers and heavy thinkers
that I have bestowed upon me.
…
Basically…I have NO idea what the hell I’m doing…BUT…Here I GO!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To the WAM (Wichita Art Museum) for an “Art Chatter” (aka PechaKucha). Ulrich Museum.
The Rueben Saunders Gallery, fabulous contemporary works.
Botanica, (You HAVE to ride the restored carousel from the past “JOYLAND”.
To any of the (NON-corporate) wonderful restaurants in our burg…
Lebanese,
Palestinian,
Japanese,
Korean,
Southeast Asian
Mexican (Food Trucks To Die For!),
Fabulous Vegetarian,
Seafood (Yeah, we get seafood too!),
Ramen,
Baked goods at “Jacks DoNuts”
“R” Coffee.
AND any thing the chefs make at the “Oddfellow Hall”
