We had the good fortune of connecting with Lital Julia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lital Julia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started in the social media realm I thought I had to be on every single day, every single minute. I did not separate my time because I thought that being online meant that I needed to share every single moment of my life. It started to feel like everything I was doing was almost all about social media and it started to create a negative relationship. This lead me to be more limited with when I decide to share things. When I’m out with my friends I take some photos while I am out, but will delay post so that I’m still in the moment with them. Social media is not 9-5, so sometimes I try to force myself to create boundaries of when I “stop” working and just let it become more fun.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the 4 years of me being in the social media world, I still get slightly embarrassed to say that I am an “influencer”. I don’t like to use that term because I feel like there is such a negative connotation to it. But over the years I’ve learned that I love creating content for my audience. The fashion styling videos, the cocktail making, dog content, and my favorite travel content is what drives me to maintain it. It makes every uncomfortable public photo taking worth it when people love the content that I produce, which is truly for them. I mentioned before my sister is also in this industry, we share a similar style but she’s a few years older, a mom, and a business owner. And even though we are so similar what I found was that people came to me to learn how to look/be boujee on a budget. I love the look of luxury, but my bank account says no (lol) So I find a way to make things that might not be glamorous to look glamorous. I’ll take an outfit that cost $30 and style it to look higher fashion.
The world of social media is not an easy one to be apart of. It’s taken me 4 years to get to where I am now and I know that I want to do more. When I just started I was getting my degree in Elementary Education, I did not know if I would be able to maintain a career in social media. It was a risky thing for me to give up my full time nanny position as well to pursue this career and every day I think about how grateful I am to have made that switch. I have been able to have so many opportunities that I would not have if it wasn’t for the social media community and the support I have been given.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced (and still face) is the negativity and trying to navigate the “right” things to say online. There is a lot of hate that you get with having a social media platform and you really need to have a thick skin to be able to not let it hurt you. I still get down sometimes, but I have found that I always treat the other person with kindness back, they will usually apologize saying that they didn’t intend for it to sound mean, or just ignoring the mean. I think no matter what you do people have opinions on what you do and say and you just have to understand that having difference of opinions is okay, and that sometimes you should reconsider what you send to someone before you send it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a fun question because I recently moved to Denver (in January) so I’m still learning the fun spots and what to do. So this is what I have found to be so much fun that I’ve recently done!
A few places I would check out for food + drinks:
– Mister Oso: yummy cocktails
– Bierstadt Lagerhaus: live music, oversized playing games + fun vibes
– Bacon Social House: if you like bacon 10/10
– Recess Beer Garden: nice outdoor space
– Forget Me Knot: DELICIOUS cocktails
– Uncles Ramen: very yummy ramen.
Coffee:
– Corvus Coffee
– Hello Darling: really cute + turns into a bar in the evening
Visit/Things To do:
– Cherry Creek mall: good for shopping + being outdoors
– Coors Field: Rockies game, so much fun!
– Meow Wolf: I haven’t been but its on my list of things to do!
– Hot Springs: would love to just spend partial day and just chill
– If you have time to go up to Estes Park + stay at the Stanley Hotel. So much fun + pretty but also fun to go ghost hunting lol
Walks: (I love a good walk outdoors so here are a few of my favorites)
– Cherry Creek Trail: great walk along the water
– Sloans Lake: a shorter walk but goes around a little lake and its really pretty
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe that my sister (@SivanAyla) fully put me on the path of content creation. A few years back I went to New York with her and she was already in this industry and encouraged me on that trip to start posting + sharing things more. So I did and her following connected with me. She then went and taught me things I still use today, photo techniques, editing lighting, captions, etc. She 100% deserves the credit to where I started and now I have an amazing team behind me that encourages me every day to do + be the best I can be. My management team: Macy, Lisa + Claudia have been there for me since day one and have always had a hand in helping me grow as well. I also love all things podcasts that other creators have shared their stories and how they have evolved over the years. Two podcasts that I like are The Toast + Making Moves with TK. And I can’t forget the most important one is all the followers I have gained over the years. Without all of them I truly wouldn’t be in this industry and am SO THANKFUL for each and everyone of them.
