We had the good fortune of connecting with Ciara Carver-Gallegos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ciara, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up I was always the “artist in the family”. I loved to paint and draw – I once painted a whole city scape mural on my bedroom walls and thats when I knew if I could just make it out of my small town and to a big city I could make something of myself.

I had taken a photography class my sophomore year in high school and within a couple months my dad had bought me my very first camera. I later fell in love with taking photos – It started with landscapes because my original idea was taking the scenery photo and then painting it after so it was all 100 % my work. I then started taking photos of my family and friends and thats when I decided I wanted to move to Denver, CO and pursue an Associates Degree in Photography. During school – I loved it so much that I shortly switched to a Bachelors Degree. I graduated in 2017 and I have been growing my photo business every year since!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It has definitely been a challenging road to get to where I am today. People think being a photographer is just picking up a camera, taking the photo and editing it. But there is SO much more than that! I have struggled with being confident in my work and I have felt discouraged plenty of times, but I think the best part of it all is finding something you love and sticking with it. I am constantly working and motivating myself, there isn’t a day that goes by where I am not glued to my computer. If I am not shooting, I am always educating myself or thinking about the next move I want to make in my business.
My favorite part about this career is meeting like minded people on the way. The photo community is amazing and by getting involved and working with others instead of against has been a huge game changer!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love the city! I would definitely start with a downtown drive of 17th street – I love the tall buildings and city views it gives. I would then go down to RiNo Art District and show the fun murals and street art. Theres tons of cute breweries and food options there! I am also a fan of all the shops and dining on Broadway street – my personal favorite is Postino’s! As much as I love the city, I am also such a nature girl and love (very short hikes) to beautiful sceneries. A quick drive to lookout mountain and Red Rocks would definitely be in the agenda.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am super thankful for my friends, family and the photo community. I have been lucky to have a solid support system the past 7 years and I couldn’t have done it without them!
