We had the good fortune of connecting with Cindy Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cindy, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Leaving my corporate job in 2018 to start my business in fishing was one of the biggest decisions I had to make.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am Texan born and raised. My family has had the most influence on my passion for the fishing and the outdoors. I grew up fishing the piers, jetties and beaches of Galveston as swim as I could walk. My parents made sure they instilled the love I have for nature and being outdoors my entire childhood. My siblings and I spent many nights camping in San Luis Pass and Texas City Dike, fishing crabbing and making the best memories.
I recently lost my dad. He was my inspiration for everything I love about the water, everything I do now is to honor the love he help created for me in my life. I find myself chasing that nostalgia as they were the best memories of my life.
Now I spend as much time as I can helping others reach the water. Whether it is fishing or boating or just learning to soak up a Texas sunrise or sunset and watching nature come alive in their element, seeing others find their passion for the outdoors is so gratifying to me. Though I love to fish and harvest for fabulous table-fare, but preserving our resources for future generations is critical and I also enjoy sharing this knowledge with others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fishing would definitely be on the agenda. Texas City Dike, Surfside Beach for grilling and and beach fun.
All the eating places on the water. Pier 6, Topwater Grill, Gaidos on the Galveston Seawall.
Best of all I’d probably take our catches back to my mom’s, for redfish in the half shell and spring rolls with the family.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. My mom especially for instilling the passion for fishing and cooking my catches and the younger generation of kids that help me continue to share my passion.
