We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia Morris-Barclay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Establishing my Entertainment, Lifestyle & Education consulting business gave me the freedom to utilize all the facets of my education and experience. I also wanted freedom of schedule and location. I like to work on projects across a broad variety of industries, companies, and organizations. I help people and businesses “get it together” and level up. I take ideas and make them a reality.
Starting my own business allowed me to partner with other organizations to help them to create something great using expertise that is not already present within their teams. I can also work directly with individual clients on their passion projects and guide a project from conception to completion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Entertainment, Lifestyle & Education Consultant known as a dynamic problem-solver who offers my clients resourceful, inventive, and attainable solutions. I help people “get it together” and level up. I take ideas and make them a reality. With #neurodivergence as my superpower, #GrowthMindset and #AgileMindset are my default settings.
So what does all that mean?
Entertainment Consulting:
I develop and produce content for entertainment startups, social media influencers, and performing artists. I help them level up and become profitable masters of their craft by providing the entrepreneurial tools, education, strategy, and support needed in the areas of Brand & Business Plan Development, Artist Development, Content Creation, and Independent Film & Music Video Production.
Lifestyle Consulting:
I use my Space Design expertise to realize the potential in even the tiniest spaces, helping to modify personal and professional environments for a lifestyle that suits YOU. I design spaces, events, and life management plans to reflect my clients’ highest priorities, amplify personal expression and release what no longer serves them, to consciously support the life they want to lead.
Education Consulting:
I curate, design, develop, optimize, implement, and deliver effective and engaging learning solutions that close performance gaps involving disparities in adult learners’ knowledge, skills, and/or attitude; changing behaviors to achieve company goals. I help businesses create microlearning, instructor-led & virtual Instructor-led training, e-learning, multimedia, blended, and performance support solutions that are human, learner, and problem-centered.
I arrived where I am today due to hard work, curiosity, and education. If there was something that caught my interest or I had a natural talent for , I made sure to take my education in that subject as far as it could go. I am a classically trained vocalist with a bachelor’s degree in education, a master’s degree in Entertainment Business, multiple certifications in Instructional Design, and over 10 years of experience and training in Space Design. I like to keep things interesting!
The challenges I’ve faced along the way were mostly surrounding other people’s need for me to be/do only one thing. We are conditioned to believe that who we are is based solely on what we do. We are also conditioned to belive that you can’t be great at multiple things which simply isn’t true. We are multitalented and multifaceted beings who can gain skills and knowledge throughout our lives – the definition of a Growth Mindset; you never stop learning.
Since I was never going to find a position at another company that would allow me to express all the parts of myself, I decided to create my own. I encourage other people not to settle for the limitations that others put on you. Only you know what you are capable of. Have the confidence to forge your own path, even if you have never seen it done before. Trust that you can learn anything you need to know along the way by seeking out credible sources and mentorship.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have only visited Denver briefly during my cross country travels, however, I really enjoyed spending time exploring Edgewater and relaxing at Sloan Lake!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to Alexis Stephens of Tiny House Expedition who always looks for opportunities to amplify my voice and the voices of those who are most often unheard and unseen.
