We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Laun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cody, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to subscribe to the mentality of “you have to work until the job is done, no matter the cost to your personal/family life.” I am working PRECISELY to care for my family, and part of that is actually being WITH them! I set clear boundaries now, and my family has benefitted greatly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
More than anything else, I am a lover of people. My art is an outlet to do that, and I love it! I always want to serve my students and colleagues first and foremost, and am thankful that inter to do that. I started out thinking I’d be a K-12 educator, and that plan got changed multiple times along the way. I learned to go after the opportunities that I wanted, but also to be a good steward of the things that came my way that were unexpected and different from my plan! The biggest lesson I learned in that was to let “success” be whatever I wanted it to be, and not be defined by anyone else.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to every taco place in Denver! We’d hit all the breweries, art installations, music venues, and restaurants in Denver, and then take drives/hikes up the Poudre canyon and I-70. The mixture of culture and outdoor activities in Denver can’t be beat.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first and foremost serve Jesus Christ with my gifts and talents. My wife is my biggest fan and greatest support.
