We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Chandler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Good things come to those who wait”

I understand this applies in certain circumstances but this does not apply to most circumstances. If you have the ability to make a move, then do it. You’ll either succeed or learn for the next time around. Make friends, start the business, climb the mountain, take a risk. If you don’t take action your life becomes stagnant.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve worked many seasonal positions to travel the United States freely since 2019. Many of these positions included general labor, management, tending bars and most recently wilderness guiding. Soon I am taking a new position as a remote sales representative with Verizon Wireless. This will be a change for me but it is the right moment in my life to take on more commitment for my future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my close friend was to visit the area we would likely go rock climbing in one of the many canyons around SLC. Right now the closest to me is Big Cottonwodd Canyon. After a long day out in the sun, hiking and climbing, we’d go to Itto Sushi for some delicious rolls and seaweed salad.

The second day I’d drive up to Alta and take my friend trail running through the subalpine. Beautiful views of the mountains, lakes, and wildlife would be the focus of the morning. Later that day we would head to get a feast of a dinner and a few beers. Ending the night with laughter and stories with a view.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have been an important part of who I’ve become. Since I was a child they supported my many interests and hobbies. They also taught me the importance of financial accountability. This belief in self and understanding of finances has allowed me to make many moves to live a life of intent.
