We had the good fortune of connecting with Cora Matte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cora, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I saw something that was not working, and I decided I could figure out a better way to do it. The traditional healthcare system is broken and no longer focused on patient care. I wanted to create a medical practice where the patients come first.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been practicing medicine for just over 13 years, and more and more the past few I realized that traditional medicine is no longer focused on the patients. While working in an urgent care, I was seeing 5 patients an hour through a 10-hour shift and always feeling the pressure to “go faster.” The only way that could be done would be by compromising the quality of my care, and I refused to do that. By the time my shifts ended I still had hours of paperwork to do, and suddenly there was no time left in the day for my family, my life, or myself. My desire to prioritize each patient and my passion for helping people provided the motivation to create Balanced Healthcare – a direct primary care medical practice devoted to building authentic relationships based on convenience, accessibility, and more one-on-one time with patients. This affordable monthly membership model provides patients with a personalized healthcare provider that’s available when they need it. Patients only have to use traditional insurance or medical cost sharing plans for the unexpected medical events like emergencies, surgeries, and serious illness. They have Balanced Healthcare for their everyday healthcare needs all year round. When medical providers are only seeing 250-500 patients, not the primary care average of 2500-4000, then there is more time for each patient, and they receive the quality of care they deserve. Medical providers can restore their work-like balance, as well. This model is the future of healthcare. Continuing down the path of our currently broken system means we continue to put the insurance and pharmaceutical companies and big hospital systems before patient care and that has to change! I couldn’t be more excited to continue to do the thing that I love, practicing medicine, in the way we were meant to with patient quality of care as the top priority.
