We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Sampson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corey, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Hello I am Corey “Sammy Cain” Sampson CEO of Bluehouse Records and I am from Gulfport, Mississippi. I grew up in a military family and we bounced around quite often. It was probably 11 or 12 years old when my family moved from Colorado Springs, CO to Gulfport, MS. Moving from the Mid-West to the South was definitely a culture change, We went from being one of the only minority families in our area to being surrounded by people who looked just like me. It was vibe that was unexplainable. I talked different, dressed different, just about everything about me was different so I had to adapt quickly at a young age. However, that move to South is what made me who I am today. I got to be around my family and met friends who eventually became family. I experienced southern hospitality, learned about my culture and roots, and finally had a place to call home. But there’s always bitter with the sweet, I also experienced poverty, low-income situations, and racism for the first time. Each experience is what made me a man and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a recording artist there are a great deal of highs and lows and just like any industry it’s very competitive. I happen to love all the above, it all fuels my creativity. I try to create my own lane in this industry which can be a challenge with everything being so over saturated. I keep my music transparent and give the audience as much of me as possible. This is my therapy and how I express myself. I’m a introvert so I don’t open up easily but behind the mic or in front of a crowd I come to life. My proudest accomplishment thus far as been forming Bluehouse Records and giving other artist a voice in this industry. I feel like the best is yet to come. This experience has been a process, one of the biggest challenges we had to overcome was Hurricane Katrina, it hit at time we were hitting our peak and it displaced many of my artist. Fast forward to the rebuild we started to gain motion then our studio was burglarized twice in a month. Those circumstances almost ended everything, but we came together and kept pushing. I won’t even mention Covid lol but we survived that as well. There are 2 lessons I learned and I live by in this industry, one you got to have patience and two you can’t be afraid to take risks. When the world is introduced to Bluehouse I want them to know they are getting high quality music from artist who will go above and beyond to inspire and motivate. That’s our brand and we will stand on that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They will be prepared for a culture shock. We people think of Mississippi they think of dirt roads, cotton fields, and country life. You have that part of Mississippi then you have the Coast. I might ruffle some feathers with that statement but the Mississippi Gulf Coast is like no other place in the state. The first thing we would have to do is get them lined out in some comfortable clothes because the heat and humidity can be unbearable. After that we got get with my man at Slinging the Coast and lock in a Slingshot to cruise the coastline and enjoy the beaches and the scenery. Grab some crawfish for lunch which I don’t eat but I recommend to every visiter to try it, they are a Coast favorite. Nightlife we gonna hit the casinos and a few bars before wrapping it up at everyones favorite hole in the wall the Sugar Shack for some southern soul music a chicken plates. Other than that we going to rock out in the studio, put some meat on the grill, play some spades and dominos, and catch up with the family the whole week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost all praise is due to The Most High. Without God there would be no me. Shoutout to my team at Bluehouse Records, they are who I do this for they keep me grounded. Shoutout to the fans and anyones life I was able to touch through my talents. Shout out Gaston Point my hood, Gulfport my city, and Mississippi my state for molding me into the man I am today. Last but not least shoutout my family who hd my back and never stopped believing in my dreams even when I doubted myself.
