Meet Cory Breth | Singer-songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cory Breth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cory, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor has been collaboration/teamwork.
From co-writing to making music videos to photography road trips, my career has always benefited from bringing other people in. Community is such an important piece of what I do. My latest full-length album was completely crowdfunded, I was blown away by the community who was willing to sow into my project financially. That allowed me to create the entire project, I couldn’t have done any of it without that community.
My brand has been successful because I have had a ton of help with visuals, promotion, and campaigns. Generous creatives and my core group of friends help with all decisions I make. I am constantly sending ideas to my creative team to help vet and flesh those ideas out.
I think it’s worth mentioning that doing it on my own was not successful. It wasn’t until I invited people in and others volunteered to be a part of projects did I start seeing success. Having that group of people to help keep me on track of my mission statement and goals is necessary. Letting others in is incredibly important.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer-songwriter who attempts to encourage, inspire, and challenge listeners with personal experience and story-telling. What sets my music apart stylistically is that it is a blend of multiple genres – folk, pop, alternative, country, lo-fi, etc.
I am most excited about the songs I have recently been writing and co-writing. This would include my 2020 full album release “Wide Awake” which included a vinyl pressing.
Along with collaboration and teamwork, I would say my perseverance and passion have gotten me where I am today professionally. I have gigged and “grinded” for about 12 years and haven’t really stopped.
It has not been easy, I have had lots of setbacks and challenges over the years (delayed timelines, broken promises, personal trauma, financial issues, etc.). But the love of singing for people has never changed. The Lord put a song in my heart and I feel called to share that song with others.
I have learned to only work with people I trust. Trust is key in making some meaningful.
I want to share in my greatest joys and darkest pains with others and invite them to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For eating and drinking, I would take them to Purebred and Pettibone for coffee, La Fiesta Express for tacos, and Moeller Brew Barn for a local beverage. To see some nature, I would take them to Charleston Falls or one of the many disc golf courses in the area. I would definitely take the person to a Dayton Dragons’ baseball game. There are a ton of little shops/malls, movie theatres, Breakout rooms, and concert venues for some fun things to do too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Chasing Father – photographer, graphic designer Eastlyn and Joshua – photographers
Matt Salley.- videographer
Will Solomon – singer-songwriter
Josh Rowe – recording engineer
