Meet Critz | Music Producer & Dj

We had the good fortune of connecting with Critz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Critz, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me, the most important thing behind success, is to always be genuine in everything you do. Being genuine and authentic in every interaction helps me to make longer lasting connections, engage with people more, and express who I am. Anytime I’ve met an artists and they are genuine with me, it makes me feel like I am connecting with that person on more than the surface level of their art.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always had a passion for music. In grade school I never wanted to leave music class even though I had played Hot Crossed Buns about 400 times on the recorder per day. As I got into middle school I really wanted to play the violin but I was “too big and too tall” to have one that was the right size so they set me up on the Viola (The violins slightly larger and darker sounding cousin) From those early days I always wanted to perform on the biggest stage to as many people as I possibly could. I never once thought that in all those years, 7 of them playing the Viola, that I would be where I’m at today In electronic music. The whole journey started when I was doing my time in the mountains working for a ski school. I got a small Dj controller for my birthday and started to learn the ins and out of how to Dj. After about 3 years of that my friends had to convince me to play the smallest house parties because I was so unsure of my self and didn’t think that anyone would dance to the music that I wanted to play for them. After a few sets to my friends I started to build up some confidence and worked my way into some small local bars playing once a week. The first 3 shows I did had exactly 2 people in attendance, me and the bartender. But being persistent payed off and year over year the night that I played grew and grew in attendance! Then everything stopped when covid came around but I won’t bore you with the details. In my free time I taught myself how to make music, mostly house music because I like it. But once again came the self doubt that I didn’t make music that was fun enough or weird enough or engaging enough for people to want to listen to it. Then one day I was offered to play on a live stream in Denver and I jumped on the opportunity! It was one of the first times I had played music that I had made out to people that weren’t my mom and dad or my close friends. And they loved it! From there it was game on! I moved to Denver later that year and through a series of shows and parties I managed to work my way into the local music scene! I still get caught up in my head sometimes, playing out newly finished tracks or sharing what I’ve been working on musically. But at the end of the day every challenge I’ve faced I have overcome by being genuine and supportive to everyone in the music scene.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first things first, lets see what good shows are happening that week! Denver is cool because music wise you can catch some amazing local artists 8 nights a week and more often than not there is some insane touring talent on almost every night of the week.
The can’t miss show has to be the Thursday party, “Steam” at Bar Standard. Every room of the bar has some of the best local Dj’s and producers and every week there is a different musical theme to each room so you’re always guaranteed to get the best of the best! And even better its free with an RSVP online! Just look up bar standard online and find a Thursday party! You’ll never want to miss one ever agin! And its the coolest thing ever that so many talented locals get the time to shine on such a big stage!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this shout out to my wonderful girlfriend Katie! She is not only an amazing musician and vocalist but she is also an amazing dancer! We have made a lot of music together and every time we come up with something amazing! She is always there to support and encourage me through this musical journey and there is no chance I would be where I am without her support to take risks in the music I make.
