Meet Dana McCausland | Hypnotherapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana McCausland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always had a natural ease connecting with others, intuitively understanding people on a deep level. I knew I wanted to have a career working with others in this capacity, but not did feel as though the traditional mental health route was for me. Hypnotherapy became very interesting to me when one of my good friends (who is actually a licensed therpaist) introduced me to the idea. I had been working at dead-end meaningless jobs and this felt like the biggest “aha moment” of my life. Immediately I got to work getting certified and working with other alternative mental health professionals to learn more about what this field had to offer. It has been the most amazing journey of my life. I have created an incredible work life balance for the first time and am able to work completely on my own schedule. Every day I see the change and impact this work has on my clients and cannot imagine my life any other way!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a Hypnotherapist and Coach, but firstly a human. I think that knowing, as well as the way I go about connecting with my clients on a person to person level is something that sets me apart from a lot of other mental health workers. I see many clients that have had experiences with other mental health workers that have acted as though they were “all knowing”, that instilled damaging narratives about “why they are the way they are”.
My approach is to empower you with the knowing that YOU are the expert of YOURSELF. I do not know more about my clients than they know about themselves. Rather, I am here to help them to explore self; to strengthen and encourage that knowing!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite neighborhood in Denver is Baker. Although we have tons of great neighborhoods, being a Colorado native Baker reminds me of that old Denver feel. It’s still a little bit gritty and has some of the cities most amazing small businesses. There are tons of amazing vintage, the historic Myan Theater, great music venues and my favorite dive bar “Sputnik” (which hasn’t changed since I turned 21 over 10 years ago). The food scene there is also amazing.
Going on a little mountain day trip I would recommend hiking in Golden Gate Canyon Park (especially if it’s fall) and heading up to Idaho springs to grab a burger and beer at “Westbound and Down” or a crafted cocktail at “Bread Bar” in Silverplume.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Nicole Herrera from “Rekindle Marriage and Family Therapy” in Littleton Colorado. She has been my mentor and the one who introduced me to the idea of becoming a Hypnotherapist.
