We had the good fortune of connecting with Darin Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I graduated from my Endodontic/Root Canal Residency in 2006 from the University of Southern California. I joined a large, group, practice in Littleton/Centennial area. Due to different philosophies in treating patients we decided to go our separate ways in 2009. I looked at my options whether I wanted to move back to the Seattle area where I grew up or if I wanted to stay in Colorado. A practice came on the market in Edwards, so I jumped at the opportunity to own my own practice in the Rockies. I love these mountains. So far, so good.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We opened Beaver Creek Endodontics in September of 2009. I wanted to create an Endodontic clinic that was very patient focused where all we actually care about is doing the best we can for patients and getting the best treatment outcomes we possibly can through research based endodontics and advanced treatment techniques. We use the latest technology and always put our patients best interest in mind. For example, we complete a lot of our root canals in two visits, depending on the situation, especially if the patient has an “infected” tooth. Seeing patients twice isn’t necessarily in our best interest due to the fact that is costs us time and money to see patients, but again it’s all about the patient. We see amazing healing results due to doing the right thing every time. It hasn’t been easy getting to where we are now. It has taken a ton of hard work and effort, however I believe if you treat people like family and you due the right thing every time you really can’t go wrong. When we purchased this clinic in 2009, the gentleman that we purchases the the clinic from was producing close to $600K/year we are now producing $1.3miilion/year. Now that’s an accomplishment. Do the right thing, treat people like family, and try your best everyday, that’s a recipe for success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man, there is so much to do in Colorado, especially in the mountains. It all depends on the time of year. In the Winter obviously we’d go rip up/ski/make some turns in Beaver Creek hoping and praying for some pow. In the Summer, hiking in Beaver Creek is also amazing. Floating and/or fishing the Eagle River is pretty awesome. For an evening event, a concert at The Vilar Center for the Performing Arts in Beaver Creek is a great place to see a show or of course if you want to head to the front range, the best place ever to catch a concert/show is at Red Rocks. My favorite place to eat in Edwards, CO, is a sports bar called ETown. Awesome food and service. Down in Denver I love me some Hillstone in Cherry Creek. We live in an amazing place. Shout-out Colorado!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout-out to my parents. They always were so supportive of all of my decisions growing up and to this very day. They still live in the house I grew up in in Puyallup, Washington. I wish I lived closer to them so I could see them more often, however we are still very close and they still support my decision to live and practice in the Rockies.
