We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Shoemake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darryl, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent we often do not emulate the behavior that we expect out of our children. The most important thing is to lead example in everything that comes out of my mouth and how i conduct myself as a husband and as a responsible man.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been allowed to make a lot of mistakes along the way. I would have to say the most important habit that I tried to emulate was to treat others the way would want to be treated. Determination and a drive to be the very best version of myself.
I often lost myself and sacrificed family time by spending so much time trying to be the best. The lessons that I have learned is that when you fail you have to have the internal fortitude to get back up. This business is under constant change and complacency is the enemy of success. When Adversity comes which it will you must choose to let it inspire you and not destroy you. The culture that we have tried to live by at Jack’s I believe sets us apart from other companies. I believe we truly make a conscientious effort to abide by our Core Values and Three legged stool approach to decision making. It starts with our Mission Statement. To become the Industry standard of excellence in delivering a complete dining experience by executing our passionate desire to serve our esteemed guests, our employees and our shareholders. Our Core Values; Golden Rule (treat others the way you want to be treated), Teamwork (Function as a team by directly serving a guest or assisting others that are) ,
Integrity (honesty in all we do), Guest First (serving the guest above all else), Excellence (being overzealous in attention to detail and consistency in exceeding the guests expectation in all we do), Communication (listen, collaborate and seek resolution) The Three-Legged Stool to decision making (employee perspective, guest perspective and shareholder perspective)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Upon arrival day one dinner at Jacks. Day two trip to Breckenridge for a day and stop at Beau Jo’s Pizza in Idaho Springs on the way back. Day three breakfast at Benedict’s, then off to the Broadmoor for the one of a kind brunch buffet, followed by Garden of the Gods and Air Force Academy Chapel. A stay for one night and dinner at the Broadmoor, then off to the Cheyenne Mountian Zoo the next morning. Head back to Denver from the Springs via Highway 83 for a scentic route. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That would be a long list. My first and most impactful mentorship came from my grandfather who taught be work ethic at a very young age and my grandmother who raised me with unconditional love and support. If you want to move forward you must invest time in whatever you want to excel in. The educational books and videos that help shaped my career. Lou Holtz Do Right. Authors Ken Blanchard, John Maxwell. Books on Remarkable Service from the Culinary Institute and attending the Disney School of Management. My best direction has come from the Bible.
