We had the good fortune of connecting with Dason Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dason, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This poster design was born from when L.A. Green, a Korean War veteran, sat down to help his child do a history report some years ago.  He created a unique design that puts all of the grade school history facts together in one glance.  When we met him, we were thrilled to help him bring the design into a more 21st Century marketing forum and give him more time to enjoy retirement as a silent partner.

Viggo Madsen and I formed a natural cohesive partnership with our shared love of education and American liberty that will venture into new territory with education tools focusing on The Constitution, Civics, and Economics.  CivCon Publishing is the name of our umbrella company with posters and educational tools being a critical component of the company mission.  Viggo has varied experience in building successful businesses.  I have a real estate and publishing background so we’re going to have a great one-two punch with our future business plans.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
No matter the political climate today, we firmly believe that understanding and applying the principles that have made this country a bastion of freedom can continue to do so. How many of our problems might be more solvable, or prevented in the first place, if those approaching them did so armed with more understanding of the Constitution? What are the mistakes and triumphs of past Presidents?  Obviously, previous lawmakers have passed some laws based on personal policy rather than Constitutional sway. Whenever I hear even my own kids say, “Oh Dad, but history is so boring!” I just say, “There’s a Poster for That!”  Government overreach keeps a lot of us busy professionally, I would say.

We just want to add our voice to that of others, to remind all to get back to basic truths of what works and what doesn’t when it comes to common sense and educating the new generations. There are a myriad of businesses like our own, that are just trying to lay roots in freedoms like what Cleon Skousen proposed: Equal Rights, not Equal Things, Virtuous and Moral Leaders and so forth.  We’re looking to channel a little bit of Milton Friedman, and Ayn Rand, and George Washington into the future with us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give my parents due justice. Sure it’s a little cliche, but I have grown a great appreciation for their fortitude in raising six of us during those decades where we ran free on the homestead in sleepy Morgan, Utah.  They both instilled a great appreciation for work while we worked the dirt and did the chores on an acre plot of land. My dad got me started early on an appreciation for American principles and love for country. My mother made the costumes, fixed the lunches, and nurtured us well.

Many of the Founding Fathers ultimately gave their lives, not just the sweat and the tears. If you haven’t read Think and Grow Rich at the age of 40 or afterwards you need to do that. It’s astounding and awesome what we are capable of as spiritual beings in an imperfect world. I love this great country and We the People have a lot of work to do. I think I speak for Viggo when I say, “We just want to see the Constitution honored. It has the answers more than ever.  Liberty comes with sacrifice and picking a fight for the future.”
