We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Kaleel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always considered myself an artist fort and everything else second. As a child I never played with dolls or cute kitchenettes, I was always creating. Set has been a part of me since before I can even remember. When hearing this question, why did you pursue an artistic or creative career, I realize that it was never an option if I truly wanted to be happy. Creativity is in my blood and art is in my soul, without it in my life, I’d be nothing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hair is not my first career, but I have no regrets about the path I took to get here. I actually have my BA in fashion design and worked that industry for awhile back in Chicago. Later received a job offer here in Colorado that was not artistic or creative in any way. That job was a huge eye opener for me in a way that showed me I needed to be doing something I was passionate about on a daily basis. So, long story short, I quit and went to cosmetology school, a long time dream of mine. The second I started working with hair I was immediately inspired again. It felt like life was put back in me. When I was in school was when I first realized something was missing. I had a client come in that had curly hair. I had received no curly or textured hair education. This is when I started to seek out further education on all the beautiful varieties that hair can come in. Over time, I have sought out several texture classes and shadowed other curly hair artists in hopes to become a stylist that anyone could come and see. In today’s world this stylists generally and sadly, does not exist. I want to be all inclusive and help all people feel beautiful. That is my biggest goal behind the chair.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver has so many amazing things to offer! When friends come to visit I always make a little itinerary of tasty places to eat, fun adventures to go on, local breweries and so much more. Red Rocks is always a must see whether it just be the trail around the venue or attending a show. There are a million hiking trails I could recommend depending on the time of the year as well as visiting quaint mountain towns. If we are are trying to stay closer to the city, I do also love the aquarium and museums. I’m so proud to say I live in such a beautiful place that has so much to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that made my journey possible, as well as made it a unique and unforgettable one. If I hadn’t had the support of my family and fiancé through all of this I certain I wouldn’t have made it through all the hardships that come with a huge career change. Without the Mick Lewis and Linson Jameson I absolutely wouldn’t be the stylist I am today. They were the first mentors I had that showed me how beautiful this art form can be and believed in me the entire time.
