Meet Dave Pomeroy | Co-Founder & Advertising Director, INSIDE LONGMONT

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Pomeroy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
As we launched INSIDE LONGMONT magazine, we encountered some surprise at starting a print magazine in this digital age. The reality is that print is enjoying a bit of a renaissance these days. There is still a place in the world for the analog experience of sitting down with a beautiful, high quality magazine in your hands. In fact, there are studies that show how print media creates a different experience for the reader–more time spent, greater retention and a high rate of credibility.

From an advertising/marketing perspective, I believe a mix of media (print, social, video, other digital) yields the best result. Well-produced print magazines fit very well in a holistic media campaign. For our part, from the start we wanted to produce an upscale product that has “coffee table life.” This means consistently offering compelling stories and beautiful photography, presented with excellent graphic design on high quality, glossy paper.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have over thirty years experience in magazine publishing and related businesses, including 29 years at the same company (National Business Media, a business-to-business media and events company that was located in Broomfield). I think that longevity at the same company says a bit about my sense of loyalty and dedication. I guess I like to play it through the whole way. Ultimately, rising up at NBM from a sales role to executive leadership set me up well for the entrepreneurial journey I’m on now with INSIDE LONGMONT.

I’m fortunate to be taking this journey with two very capable business partners, Katy Ibsen and Barbara Platts. Between the three of us we have over SIXTY combined years of publishing experience, and we each bring something different to the table. I feel I’m at my best in a collaborative environment; I know from experience that collaborating on ideas and strategy yields the best results. Sometimes this includes debate, heated discussion and differing opinions–but the best plans stand up well to challenge. Always worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What a great question! As a co-founder of INSIDE LONGMONT, we’re going to stay local in the town that I love. We’ll start our days grabbing coffee at one of the fantastic independent coffee shops in Longmont, like MECO Coffee Collective on Main Street. Then a breakfast burrito from Danny’s Tacos at 17th & Hover Street. Now, it’s time to hop on our gravel bikes for a tour of the fantastic gravel roads west of town, coming back into Longmont on the Open Sky Loop trail. Or maybe we grab the kayaks and paddle boards and put in at McIntosh Lake. Maybe we do a run on the St. Vrain Greenway, ending up at Shoes & Brews for a cold beer. Dinner options in Old Town Longmont have never been better, but we’re going to head to the southwest end of town to Proto’s Pizza. The Pontiff Pie never disappoints.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my wonderful wife, Barb Pomeroy. As my life partner, confidant, advisor, therapist, running/cycling training partner and best friend, she’s there for me every step of the way and I hope she can say the same about me. Over the years we’ve spent countless hours soliciting advice from each other, critiquing ideas and offering a sympathetic ear. Barb is the voice of reason in an often crazy life as we raise our six daughters, seek success professionally, and try to keep some time for ourselves. It just doesn’t work without Barb!
