Meet David Curtis | Founder/Owner Enzy Campers

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was born out of a personal experience. My family and I have owned various RV’s and campers though none of them fit our needs well. We do some family camping, but most of our trips are planned around hunting. So during the summer of 2020, which lots of lockdown time on my hands I took things into my own hands and built my own camper out of a cargo trailer.. This camper was built with a backcountry hunter in mind. I soon realized there was a huge need for this type of recreational vehicle. From there Enzy Campers was born.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We build custom (cargo conversion) campers for those looking for something that they can’t find in a traditional RV. Though we work with anyone looking for something different, we primarily work with hunters, fishermen, and outdoor enthusiasts.
Since each buildout is custom built, it gives our clients the ability to have features and layouts that suit their specific needs. Whether that be a built in dog kennel, boot dryer, bow storage, or a rig built around their UTV.
I believe what sets us apart is how much emphasis we put on durability, quality and functionality. Nothing bothers me more than cheap flimsy product. Therefore we will always build things to last.
Starting, and growing Enzy Campers has been quite the journey. Lots of highs and lows with lots of lessons learned along the way. But my team and I are having a blast! We love the outdoor industry. Our goal is simple. Serve our community, and make lasting relationships along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since there is a lot of 14ers (14,000) foot mountains just up the road from us, we would first hike Mount Huron. Its a beautiful trek. A mile before you hit the summit is a valley of wildflowers, enjoy the view because the last bit of the hike is tough but don’t give up! You just might see a mountain goat. After that we would hit up Terrace on Main- A new rooftop bar along Main Street in Buena Vista. Enjoy their locally sourced desserts and appetizers and seasonal drinks. Not to mention the view! Check them out! If you need coffee, be sure to stop by the Blend. A locals favorite, serving smoothies and coffee drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family. They are my backbone and my number one mission. Not only am I a huge believer in the importance of family, but my business is based on that premise as well. In fact the name Enzy Campers comes from the initials of our four kids.
