We had the good fortune of connecting with David Starr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started my musical journey at age 10 by taking drum lessons, and was hooked immediately. I played in bands for years and began writing songs at an early age. Guitars came into the picture early on well. While I always had the proverbial “day job”, music always called to me. In the mid 90’s, I found myself at a career crossroads. Surrounded by my guitar collection in my home recording studio, the idea for Starr’s Guitars was born. I decided to spend my days surrounded by the instruments that I was passionate about!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve managed to combine my love of performing and songwriting with the vintage guitar business. I like to say that even on a bad day, I’m surrounded by beautiful music and beautiful guitars!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d show them around the Grand Mesa arts & Events Center I helped found. I’m very proud of the impact that our organization has had on our community. Then, we’d check out a local eatery for some lunch and conversation with locals.
Since we live in the shadow of the Grand Mesa, I’d drive them up to the top for a breathtaking view of our little valley.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to small businesses everywhere. The small retailers built the American economy and I believe we’re in danger of losing them to big box stores and online retailers. I’m a big fan of coffee shops, music stores, art galleries and small businesses everywhere!
