We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Seaford – Pitula and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debbie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My husband David and I, started Whistling Boar because we wanted to work directly with farms and to reduce our footprint as a hospitality company. The path we wanted to follow was very personal to us and we did not find other companies that shared the same passions. Our focus was on building community with our local farms, reducing our production footprint and support business that made agricultural sustainability a priority. We wanted to build a creative artisanal hospitality company without adding to the waste of the catering industry.
What should our readers know about your business?
In 2016, we had big city dreams of a simpler life and decided to move our family out of New York City. We were in search of more space, more environmental sustainability, and wanted to be closer to farms and farm fresh food. Not only for ourselves but also for the people we serve. That search brought us to the Front Range and we never looked back. Whistling Boar is a private chef hospitality company that strives in being hyper local and support and practices sustainable methods. We began in Feb 2020. A month to the day before before the pandemic shut everything down. We did not think we would make it. But somehow we weathered the storm and kept on our path. We learned that there is power in numbers as our community supported each other with products and services to keep everyone going. We would want the world to know that it is absolutely possible to build a food company that follows the path of sustainability. The support with come and the food is delicious.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Zero Foodprint Through ZFP, we were able to take our passion of supporting local farms to the next level by donating a percentage of our sales to provide grants that support farms in Colorado.
